NYC-good night spots?

Okay, we have made reservations for Cesca and The Park. Has anyone been to the park? What did you think?
Now, I am on to finding a few places for drinks. We are two girls in our late 20's...one single and one married. We are looking for something with a good scene (to people watch) and have some good drinks.

I rec. checking out newyork.citysearch.com. Food at The Park is mediocre but can be a fairly fun scene if you don't go on a Friday or Sat. night. Try Tues. or Wed. I rec. Hue at 91 Charles St. Fun bar upstairs, good food and there's a lounge downstairs that opens up later in the evening. I'd go on a Wed. night or Thurs. Also, Spice Market in the Meatpacking District has a great vibe and excellent food. You'll also find other fun places to people watch around there.

The Park is way past its prime (and I agree the food is mediocre at best).

For drinks, Libation on the LES is very hot right now, as are Shiller's, the Maritime Hotel, and the rooftop bar of the Gansevoort Hotel.

Enjoy!

Please don't eat at the Park. the space is cool but the food is blah and expensive. Go to Ono, Kittichai, Spice Market, Bao 111, Balthazar or many countless others instead. And the last few times I have been to the Park for drinks it has been 30 year old bankers and the 19 year old girls who love them. For drinks, try Employees Only, the Hudson, Campbell Apt (not trendy, but awesome drinks in a gorgeous space), APT, Level V...

I think the Maritime is starting to experience the slippery downward slope as well although the upstairs outdoor space is always fun when it's warm out.

Spice Market is usually a good scene, but you may not be able to get reservations. If you can't, a good bet would be to go get some drinks and appetizers in the bar downstairs. And Shiller's is tons of fun and there are a lot of bars around there if you get bored.

Oh, and I meant to include this. You can look at bar reviews on Sheckys.com. I think they've recently started requiring that you register (it's free, though). You can try the New York CitySearch site, too.

And be aware that Friday & Saturday nights are "amateur nights" at the hip bars & clubs. The best nights to go out on the town are Monday & Tuesday.

If you want to check out the LES bar scene, then consider dinner at WD-50 or Tenement.

Enjoy!
