We've used both Tel Aviv and Carmel.

6 people and their luggage would probably require a full size van. The cost at the services mentioned in the other reply would be about $70 plus tip and toll. The tip might be a mandatory 20%. You can call 1 800-CARMEL for exact cost. Two taxis would be a l less expensive - each cab would be around $35 tip and toll included.

Rob has it about right, but left out a digit in Carmel's phone number--it's
1-800-9CARMEL
(or locally, 212 666-6666)
Another company, Tel Aviv is at
212 777-7777. Both have websites , usually with discount coupons on them.

Taxi fare used to be about $25, but I haven't taken a cab from LGA since the fares went up a few weeks ago. $35 does sound about right

Agree that for 6 people with luggage 2 cabs will be cheaper than a van. It may also be faster. My experience is that the car services, although OK for drop off at airports, are not very good at pick up. Frequently they're in the wrong place, or late, or don;t get your name right. And if your plane is late then all bets are off.

IMO it's much simpler just to grab a cab - the waiting line in rarely more than a few minutes.

Take 2 taxis. If your flight into LGA is late, you'll have to pay for "wait time" for the car service.

Another option that would be cheaper is the NY Airport Service bus. Kids under 12 are free and adults are charged $10 (or $17 round trip). The Grand Central stop is only a couple blocks from your destination. www.nyairportservice.com

In a similar vein, what about a car for 4 passengers with not too much luggage? How much might that be or would two cabs be better?

DMG, you can fit four adults with luggage in one cab. We've done this lots of times. One person sits up front with the driver and the trunks are HUGE!

Agree with using Tel Aviv car service. They are the only ones that have never stood me up.

Do you think the taxi trunk could hold 4 moderate suitcases?

Also where do people get these discount coupons for the car service?

We would be arriving on A saturday morning, around 11 AM.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Carmel has a Mini Van that should fit 6 for 50 bucks + tax and Tip, but I think we might just take cabs( thanks for the advice!!). - one less thing to worry about. I think I might check out that valuepak.com though

A mini van holds six but the luggage becomes a problem. If you call a car service and tell them you need a mini van for 6 they are sure to ask how much luggage you will have.
