Newport B&B in December

I'm looking for advice on affordable B&B's in Newport for the weekend of December 7. For this trip, I'd like to have the room be romantic (fireplace a plus, jacuzzi tub on the "wish list") and comfortable. I'd like to keep the price under $150 per night. My husband and I stayed at the Castle Hill and absolutely loved it, but this trip is for my daughter and her boyfriend, and money for them is an object. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks, everyone!

Several years ago, we stayed at the Samuel Durfee House and had a wonderful time. The hosts were gracious and helpful, and as it was our son's birthday when we were there, served him his favorite (bacon) for breakfast on his birthday. We stayed in the Durfee room (kids in another room), and while there was a fireplace, I don't know if it's functional (we were there in late May). The rooms were lovely and comfortable. Room rates for this time of year, per their website, are $115 midweek and $145 on the weekends.

You could try the Wynstone. They have a lovely room on the first floor-- not sure if there is a working fireplace. The bathroom in that room is very large and has a jacuzzi tub. I think you could work with the owner, his name is Rick, on the rate. The location is perfect too.

Considering the Wynstone or Sarah Kendall House. Any opinions on these? Thanks.

I can't give you any suggestions on the inside of these two places. The S-K house is located on the Point, a short 5-10 minute walk into town. This house also has a front veranda facing the water and I would guess some rooms on the second floor have a decent view of the bay. The Wynstone is located only one block away from the center of the action, but I doubt any rooms there have nice views of the waterfront (they certainly don't claim it on the website). Not knowing the price difference, I would say that in good weather the location of the S-K House gives you a little "get-away" from the bustle of the harborfront and can relax on the porch, etc. But in December that advantage begins to go away. If it is 32 degrees and windy, even a 7 minute walk to the action is going to be a little uncomfortable. So at this time of year, I give the "location" nod to the Wynstone (summer and fall, I would say S-K house). However, if there is a big price difference, or you hear horror stories about one vs the other, I wouldn't let location be the main factor in your choice.

We stayed at the Francis Malbone house in November a few years ago; it was wonderful, and we could walk to most everything...
