New York Skiing

Can anyone suggest a good ski resort for a group of families traveling together over New Years weekend ? Need activities for non-skiiers too. Prefer accomodations that offer ski on/off. Thanks

Try Holiday Valley in Ellicotville NY...several family style accomodations and condo and chalet rentals... although you may have trouble this late for that weekend...good luck!

Gore is my favorite NY state ski center -- but it doesn't meet your requirements very well. There are no ski on/off accomodations, and there really isn't much to do around there for non-skiers.

Are you willing to go out of NY state?

How about Smugglers Notch in Vermont? It is not too far over the NY border. Holiday Valley is fun--the vertical is only 800 feet, but they have a nice hotel that is swim outside/swim inside, even in the winter. (Those are common out west, but we haven't run into many in the east.) Smugglers Notch has TONS to do if you are with kids, even if Mother Nature frowns and doesn't deliver snow. Plus, they include lessons in the price so your skiing will definitely improve.
