New York in October

Hello, we are planning a trip to NYC around OCt 11. How is the weather at that time. Is there any special events taking place that weekend. Has anyone stayed at the:
Madison Hotel, Edison Hotel, Hotel Beacon, Portland Square Hotel, Wellington Hotel, lately or other suggestions for clean, safe, well located hotels with private baths for about $100/night. We got a decent rate for the Pennsylvanian but heard it was bad, so we didn't take it. Thanks!

Weather is fine - it won't be cold. Beacon and Edison have received a number of favorable posts on this forum. Suggest you do a search for each hotel as there have been recent threads on each hotel you mention. Using Times Square as a base the Edison and the Portland Square are the best located - both are on W. 47th Street. The others are also conveniently located. All are in safe areas. Check http://newyork.citysearch.com/ for an events calendar. Two parades that weekend - Hispanic Day parade on the 13th and Columbus Day parade on the 14th.

You should check availability forthwith! October is a very busy month and many hotels are completely booked alread.

Ashley:

Depending on where you are traveling from, and what type of weather you are used to, you might want to bring along a light jacket in October. I go to NYC in October every year and usually find it to be on the chilly side.

Another hotel suggestion....I've seen posts where people have been happy at Red Roof Inn Midtown for around $100 per night. It's on 32nd between Broadway & Fifth.

Have fun.

If there are only two of you, I highly recommend you consider using Priceline. That same $100 per night can buy you a four star hotel which will be much more comfortable than the ones you're suggesting. If you're curious, go to www.biddingfortravel.com

Hi, Ashley!
I have stayed at the Madison and found it excellent: close to many desirable sites, a safe neighbourhood, a subway entrance only a couple of blocks away, friendly management, clean rooms, and a price that would be hard to beat anywhere in New York (at the moment you can get a room for four with breakfast for $88; doubles and singles are even less.) You won't go wrong with the Madison. Have also heard good reports about the Portland Square -- certainly its location is excellent, and a good friend of mine will, nowadays, stay nowhere else -- but when we checked the rates, it just couldn't compare with the Madison, which allowed us to see New York cheaper than we say Philadelphia. By the way, you have to book the Madison directly with the hotel, not through an internet agent. Check the website on www.madison-hotel.com. Have a great time in this fantastic city.... wish I could go back there!
