New York City car service

How expensive is it to rent a car service for a few hours in the evening to take us to and from the theater and dinner after. I hate trying to get a taxi after the theater when it is cold and rainy and so many people want the same thing.

It would be a bit difficult to get a car to be there when you get out of the theatre, since alot of the shows get out at about the same time, traffic is really bad.

If it is a nice evening just walk to 8th Ave or 6th Ave where it will be easier to get a cab.

YOu might try calling the car service companies to see what they suggest.

Figure it will cost you $20-$30 plus tip.

Coming out of a show one night and heading to 6th where we thought we could get a cab because one of our party had a broken ankle, things were no better. If we had been aggressive enough to push a few people out of the way and grab a taxi they were getting into, we might have had some luck (and yes, we did see that happen). We ended up walking some 12 blocks almost in the street still trying to get a taxi with no luck at all. We were a half hour late for our after theatre reservation thanks to spending all that time unsuccessfully trying to get a taxi along 6th. And having rented between 8th and 9th, I've been exposed to hundreds of people standing in the rain for ages trying to get a taxi after theatre without luck.
But I see numerous car service guys standing outside every show with a name on a sign. I say it would be worth it if you want a car. Call one of Gekko's suggestions. TelAviv is another one that is mentioned here a lot.

You might try to get the car service to do two trips - one to the theater and another from the theater to the restaurant. But they have minimum charges - and you may have trouble getting them to do rides this short.

If you want to keep the car at your disposal for the whole night they usually charge something in the range of $30-$40 per hour.
