How to get from LaGuardia to Midtown Manhattan-- cab, car, bus?

My husband and I are going to NYC for a long weekend (15th anniversary!). We wanted to take the train, but is so much cheaper (and faster) to fly... so my question-- should we take a cab from LGA to our hotel or should we hire a car... I am told that the $ difference is not very big. Does anyone know of a RELIABLE and affordable car company if this is an option... any other options to get us from LGA to Midtown? THANK YOU!!

Unless you are traveling on a super busy weekend (let us know the weekend and we can tell you), I'd just grab my luggage and go get in line at the taxi stand.

You'll only wait a couple of minutes.

The car service is nicer and the price is about the same but you'll have to wait a few minutes for your car.

Easiest thing is to cab it from LGA and then take a car service back to the airport on your day of departure.

Agreed.

Take a taxi unless you're arriving at a peak travel time or if you must pay with credit card for some reason.

If you'd prefer to reserve a car, I use www.dial7.com often and have never had a problem.

Agree with GoT. The taxi from LGA is relatively quick and inexpensive (~$35) The car service that you see waiting with a sign with someone's name are much pricier (you pay for parking, waiting etc.--this is called "meet and greet") If you want a car for pickup, I like limores.net

I totally agree. I always cab it from the airport since the fare is set and there are usually several waiting even if there is a line. When returning, for my own comfort/security, I've used Express Car Service for 20 yrs phone 212 831 8900 or 800 446 5466 and I reserve a week in advance and reconfirm upon arrival or morning of departure. It should only be $5 more than cab. Somehow I can never have my morning coffee or whatever and be packed in time, so if I don't have a car waiting for me I would be frantically hailing a cab, something to avoid. PS Although Express accepts credit cards, they now charge a fee for using credit card.

Note the fare is NOT set from LGA. It's set from JFK.

You're on the meter to and from LGA.
