New Hope - tips please! ;)
Hi! After receiving nice reviews about New Hope and surround areas (ie, Lambertville) here from fellow fodorites, we've decided to definitly visit New Hope for our first wedding anniversary in November. Any tips out there?
~ How is parking in New Hope? or, if we decided to take Amtrack to get there, will we have a tought time getting around without our own car?
~ Are there ANY decent lodgings for less than $150/night? We love B&B's, but the budget is very tight this year...
~ Please post your fave restaurants when visiting New Hope! Is it expensive?
~ Any suggestions for a romantic place to visit or do?
Thanks in advance!

You can walk the length of Main Street and many of the side streets in New Hope very easily. However, if you want to take a side trip to Peddler's Village in Lahaska you will need a car. You should be able to park wherever you decide to stay. There is a Best Western on Route 202 in New Hope, but I don't know their rates. There's a b&b named The Wishing Well Guesthouse that's about $100.00 to $135.00 per night. New Hope has numerous websites that list b&b's with pictures and rates. I can't say I've stayed in all of them, but I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them because it's a quaint little town. As for restaurants there's Logan's Inn (historical), Martine's, La Dolce Vita, C'est La Vie, and La Terazza. I think they're all good. The b&b's and the ambience in most of the restaurants will provide you with the romantic setting you're seeking.

I don't see how you'd get there by Amtrak. November is not empty in New Hope (never is) but it's less busy than other times. Parking is always tough, but still doable. Lambertville is often easier for parking and then it's a 5 minute walk across the bridge into New Hope.
Most B&B's I've seen that look nice are over your price range, unless perhaps you're going midweek.

JJ, since I reside in the area I am not up close and personal with the B&B's firsthand. One of my favorite places is on the outskirts on New Hope heading East. It is called the Inn at Phillips Mill. Very French country, a BYOB, and wonderful ambiance. Is great for a special occasion. It is also a B&B. Pricy. I would figure on 50- 70.00 for dinner. Others would be Mothers in New Hope,Lulu's outside cafe, good for lunch. Havana's, Carla's. There are many others but those are the ones I have ate dinner or lunch at. Also Logan Inn. Stockton Inn on the Jersey side is also very good. There is also a playhouse to see a show if that interests you, antique shops in Lamberville. There is mule barge ride, and a boat ride on the Delaware. There is also several wineries to visit in the area. Must have a car for those places. Have fun. Happy Anniversary.

DO NOT STAY AT THE STOCKTON INN! My husband and I reserved a suite there for our anniversary last year and the room was filled with hundreds of little gnats all flying around the upper part of the high ceiling at the price of 175.00 p/n. Other room offered was full of cobwebs and peeling paint. We checked out and had to stay all the way in Princeton because all other pkaces were full. Never an apology or letter of regret from the innkeeper either. Best places to stay are in Lambertville. The Lambertville House is lovely or the Lambertville Station(the rooms are very used here and could stand a revamping, but sometimes you can get a good deal with dinner on Sunday night stay. Inn at Philips Mill is very nice for dining but rooms are run down too. Centre Bridge Inn is very nice to stay and right on the Delaware River. Good restaurant too!

We have stayed at the Lambertville Inn- it is on the National Historic register- Our room had a working fireplace and a balcony-- did not want to leave!! It was gorgeous- newly renovated and worth every expensive penny we spent!!!
You DO need a car to get around- Lambervielle is full of terrific art galleries and antique shops and you can walk across the bridge to New Hope=New Hope is More touristy-lots of tourist shoppes==Lambertville is more upscale-
We did Dine at the Inn at Phillips Mill and it has always been TERRIFIC...expensive but good- Reservations are a must as they are booked up on weekends.

Stayed at Lambertville House in March and loved it. But it will not be in your price range even in low season. The Lambertville Station is very convenient and better priced. Right on the river by the bridge between Lambertville and New Hope. But didn't see the rooms so can't comment as to whether they are rundown or not. Lots of nice restaurants, although not cheap. Plenty to do if you like galleries and window shopping. It was not empty even in March but not at all unbearable.
