Need hotel near Phoenix Sky Harbor

We are spending one night in Phoenix en route to the Grand Canyon. Several years ago, we stayed at a hotel very close to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, but I can't remember the name of it. Can anyone help me with the name of that hotel or a recommendation for a hotel. I'm not interested in seeing Phoenix per se, just spending the night after a long flight and hopefully getting a good night's sleep before the long drive to the canyon.
Thanks in advance,
Jane

canyonjane, you should do a search for hotels just 10 minutes north of the airport directly off of I-17. There are loads of them from Sleep Inns to Extended Stays. It will give you a good headstart in the AM.

Do be careful, the airport is near a rather unsavory neighborhood (Van Buren) with lots of hotels, but not the kind you would want your family to stay in.

Meant to add, I would recommend you check tripadvisor.com -- I believe they have a "near airport" sort feature.

We recently arrived in Phoenix late and had a room reserved at Marriott Courtyard. Although it is slightly south of the airport, it was less than a 5 minute drive and right off the interstate. After getting our rental car, it was really easy to get to. It was in more of a commercial (offices) area -- but certainly nothing that seemed unsafe. We passed a number of others in the neighborhood.

NeoPatrick, many thanks for your suggestion. We wound up at the Fairfield Inn run by Marriott immediately adjacent to the Marriott Courtyard that you mentioned. I agree that it was a good location in relation to the airport, and the neighborhood was mostly commercial. I would definitely stay at either the Courtyard or the Fairfield Inn again. Do you know if the Courtyard is the nicer of the two hotels? I couldn't figure out how to figure it out. Probably everyone knows the differences in brands of hotels, but I mostly stay with family or camp when travelling so for future reference, it would be good to know.

Hopalongmay, another time I will explore the area north of the airport off I-17 when I am there in daylight.

Abcdc, thanks for the warning about the unsavory neighborhood. I got slightly lost at first and I think I may have been in that unsavory neighborhood. When I stopped the car at a convenience store to ask directions, a man passing by on foot yelled out, "do you need help?" and from my car window, I said, "how do you get to such and such" and he answered me, ending his reply with the warning, "Don't trust anyone around here. Me? I'm from Nashville. That's fine, but these people? Don't trust them."

Yes, Courtyard is usually considered a step up from the Fairfield. Rooms generally are a little larger and usually have a sort of mini kitchen or at least microwave and a sink and mini refrigerator. They usually cost more too. I'm perfectly happy with Fairfield. We had a free Marriott night this time (from accepting a Marriott Rewards credit card) and could choose either, so took the "more expensive of the two" -- the Courtyard.

NeoPatrick,
Many thanks! I was hoping you would see my question and reply to me. I am really grateful to know the details, especially as I am already planning my next trip to Phoenix en route to the canyon to secure a backcountry permit in person. It's a long way from Connecticut so I am happy to have this hotel issue resolved way ahead of time.
