Where to stay near Phoenix airport?

Flying into Phoenix on a Friday night in June - not going to Sedona till Saturday. Where can we stay that is reasonable and either at the airport or near it? We are going to get in really late and just want to crash until the next morning before we drive to Sedona. I appreciate any suggestions. Nothing special needed (Hampton Inn, Doubletree etc), just a clean nice room.

Last December when I got stuck in Phoenix I stayed at the Sheraton Phoenix Airport Hotel (actually in Tempe). 1600 South 52nd Street, Tempe. It was very nice but not expensive and has excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. I got it with Starwood points. Quite satisfied with it. It's not right at the airport but very close.

Perhaps though you could find a place north of the airport to save you from backtracking when you head north the next morning. I'd look at airport hotels on a travel website, look at the ones off I-17 if you are using that route, then check them out on Trip Advisor.

Try Priceline for a 3-star hotel in the Phoenix zone. To check on what people have been winning and the amounts, go to www.biddingfortravel.com.

I'd go for something in the Scottsdale area as it won't be that far from either the airport or the hwy to Sedona.

I think what DLYeager and I are looking for is specific hotel/motel recommendations, preferably from other travelers who have stayed there before.

"I think what DLYeager and I are looking for is specific hotel/motel recommendations"

It would be helpful if you would state that upfront rather than just topping a year old post. Perhaps someone with some insight has skipped this thread because they noticed the date and figured OP doesn't need the info anymore.

You are absolutely correct! I missed that.

However, my wife and I will need recommendations for the PHX area for one night in early June of 2008. Any suggestions?

Try using Priceline. I got the 3* Radisson at the airport for $40. With taxes & fees, less than $50 a night. I'm sure most of the airport hotels will have airport shuttles if you wanted to wait until the next AM to pick up your rental.

I would not go to Scottsdale. It would add time on to your trip the next day. They do have great resorts and pretty good prices in June, but you aren't going to have time to enjoy the sites. For airport hotels, avoid anything that is on Van Buren. There are several good places on 44th St near the airport. There is a Hampton, a Doubletree, Crowne Plaza and a Marriott among others. Nice area for a one night stay. There aren't many places to eat except for the hotels.

The Tempe hotel that another poster mentioned is also nice.

Do be aware that not all airport hotels offer shuttle service. Also rental cars at the airport are taxed through the roof.

Have a great trip.
