Hotels near PHX (Sky Harbor) Airport

My family and I will need to spend 1 night in Phoenix to leave early the next morning for Sedona. Don't need anything fancy. We are arriving in the evening and will have a rental car.
Please give me any comments/suggestions on these hotels:

Residence Inn 801 N. 44th St.
Wyndham 427 N. 44th St.
Holiday Inn Select 4300 E. Washington St.
Hampton Inn 601 N. 44th St.

Any others?

Thanks for the help.

I would advise taking your rental car and driving north on I-17 toward Bell Road. First off, you don't want to stay near the airport if you don't have to (many areas aren't the safest and the hotels are often older), secondly, you'll already be past the busiest part of the metro interstate traffic to make your morning trip low stress. There are many name chain hotels to choose from out on north I-17.

Of the ones you listed, I'd probably go w/ the Residence Inn. Nearby (On 44th St) is a nice Doubletree or a full service Marriott that would also be good choices. If you are heading up to Sedona on a weekday, the previous poster does make some sense (However I-17 does have a HOV lane and the traffic will be moving into the city and you will be going out). If you do want to take this suggestion then a hotel like the Fairfield Inn at
I-17/Bell would be a good choice. Have a good trip.

I think it depends on what time of day you will be arriving. I congratulate you for asking about some great hotels near the airport. The area that you have pinpointed is safe and one that is regularly recommended. Any of the hotels would be fine. If you do stay here you will run into traffic as you try to head north in the morning to Sedona.

However, if you would like to get a head start out of town you can head up north on I-17. Some of the hotels along this way are Springhill Suites, Townplace Suites, Amerisuites, Sheraton Cresent, Main Stay Suites, Sleep Inn, Wyndham Gardens, Crowne Plaza, 4 Pts Sheraton, Embassy Suites and La Quinta. All of them are very nice. If you select something on I-17 in the Metrocenter (a large shopping center area) or further north you will be fine. I would avoid the Comfort Inn and any other properties further south. Also, skip the Premier Inn near MetroCenter. I-17 will get crowded from 3:30pm to 6:00pm with rush hour. But even if you arrive then it's not too bad it's just stop and go. You are probably going to get better rates along this area as well.

Have a good trip.

Thank you all for your help. I like the idea of the head start the next morning even though it will be on Saturday. I think I am finding better rates, too.
Thanks again. All of your information has been very helpful.

Hello all. I have a similar request for help but coming the other direction. I will be coming from a visit in Sedona to the airport early evening during the week. I want to return the car and catch a hotel shuttle to a nearby hotel in a safe area for a bit of a look around and then shuttle back for an early morning flight. Advice on which hotels have these shuttles and areas recommended would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I can't think of any hotels in Phoenix proper which offer airport shuttles and which are located in areas where you'd want to "have a bit of a look around". As with most major cities, the Phoenix airport is not in a desirable area of town and isn't close to any areas you'd want to be wandering around as a pedestrian. The area noted by the original poster doesn't offer anything to see for the traveller without a car. The only exception would be the Tempe hotels around Mill Ave. Not sure that any offer shuttles, but that would be an area which would fit your goals if you could find transit.

I stayed at the Sheraton at the airport last year and liked it, has a shuttle. You might want to check their rates too. But as previous poster said, there is nothing around the airport. You either need a car or be sure the hotel has a place to eat.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites last May. It was much cheaper than their regular rates b/c May is considered off peak since it's already really HOT then.

The area around the Embassy Suites is not that great - not scary, but definitely not somewhere you'd want to go for a stroll.

I'd go with the Tempe Mission Palms - see their website @

http://www.missionpalms.com/

The hotel is located in Downtown Tempe, 4 miles from the airport. I checked their website and it does advise they have a free airport shuttle. I'd contact them to see how you arrange pickup. While some airport hotels are quite acceptable (Nice even), the area around offers little to the visitor and is not a place to walk around at night. Tempe's DT is definitely your best bet.
