albany hotel
will be at a family reunion in Albany NY from July 2 to 5. Anyone know of a decent hotel to stay at for around $100 or maybe even a little less? Also, any great place to go for dinner? Thank you.

Where in Albany are you looking?
There are a couple of areas with hotels.
- downtown (most $$, cater to business clients)
- near SUNY Albany Campus (generally cheaper (around $100/nt) - basic chain/suite hotels
- near the airport/Wolfe Rd (higher priced than SUNY area - (expect to pay ~$150/nt) business/travel hotels ranging from low to high end
- north of airport/Latham area (generally cheaper ~$100/nt) - basic chain hotels)
- east of Albany/along I-90 (i.e. East Greenbush area) - lower price ~$90/nt
If you give me your preferred location I can give you some options.

Hi, J62. I think we want to stay either in that airport area, or maybe the SUNY area. We did look at the Desmond, but it`s out of our budget, but it does look lovely. Any suggestions for those areas? We will have a car. Thanks!

There are several Marriott properties right at SUNY/Washington Ave. These are right at I-90 exit 2.
1. Marriott TownePlace suites - w/ ensuite kitchinette. AAA rate $114/nt. Be sure to get a room away from the highway if you can. Comfortable, rooms are small but good. Free wireless.
2. Marriott Fairfield Inn
simpler rooms. OK hotel, I prefer the TP suites. Rates ~ $100/nt.
3. Marriott Courtyard - haven't stayed there.
other hotels
4. Hilton Garden Inn - brand new hotel, probably higher $
5. Cresthill suites. another suite hotel. Comfortable. Rooms facing I-90 can be noisy, so ask for a room facing SUNY, not the highway.
and on the opposite side of SUNY, on Western ave are:
6. Holiday Inn Express - reports are it's ok
7. Days inn - no data on that one.
By the airport I like the Hampton Inn, but their rates are higher. There can be airplane noise starting at 6am, depending on wind direction.
There's also big Holiday Inn & Marriott - both more $$.
Let me think more about dinner recs. There are a lot of mediocre places along Wolfe Rd (Cheesecake factory, etc). If you want something creative, not your basic chain food you're better off eating downtown. Perhaps others have good ideas there. If you have a car then getting around isn't a problem.
