Naples - Recommend a hotel or area for villa
We are a family of 6 travelling to Naples in August for a week, children aged between 2 and 9. We are not sure whether to stay in a hotel or villa. Can you recommend any 3/4* hotels near the beach, restaurants etc. or could you suggest an area to rent a villa eg. Lelys Resort - is this good? Your help would be much appreciated.

Lely resort is a bit of a hike to the beach.
I dont know what your budget is but you could try Naples Cay, through Resort Quest. These are two and three bdrm condos right on the beach. Great place to stay.
The Naples Beach Club is good. The quality of rooms varies so get details. Edgewater Beach are suites with kitchens, on the beach, small pool.

We are renting a villa in Lely ( w/ pool), starting Sat. May 12-19. We are die-hard beach lovers, but the 15 min drive to the beach doesn't deter us, b/c livng in PA, there are no beaches. ..If you remind me, I'll let you know how it was.

The only two logical choices on the beach and NEAR downtown Naples are the Edgewater and the Naples Beach Club. Frankly in "hot as hell" August, I'd appreciate the Gulf breezes especially at night instead of being inland at Lely (also where mosquitos and noseeums become more of a problem).
Someone recently posted that they loved their villa at the the Naples Grande, which is by the beach and near shops and restaurants, and a tram ride to the beach.
Looking for an interesting bargain. The recently redone CharterClub Resort sent me a mailing recently. They are located on the bay in Downtown or Olde Naples and their two bedroom two bath villas on the water are going for something like $149 to 169 a night in August! This is a steal for them.

They really depend on the rain. When we start getting daily rains they seem to hatch out over night. So far we're still in a drought, so I'm not sure when they'll start getting bad -- usually not until June at least. They tend to get the worst by about August.
Repellent? I'm not sure -- but I suppose anything with Deet.

The web site http://www.looking4spas.com/travel/v...as/florida.htm has several places to choose from in the Naples area.
