most romantic restaurant

I am planning a fabulous "price is no object" wedding anniversary for my husband. Have rented the VIP spa suite at the Mandarin Oriental and want to have a very romantic meal afterwards. Looking for ambiance, beautiful decor, any cuisine is fine (but not a fan of Italian). Location does not matter much either - booking a limo. Any suggestions?

There are Mandarin Orientals in SF, NYC, Miami & DC. Which one are you going to for your romantic anniversary celbration?

I believe ilasik will be celebrating her anniversary in NYC.

Anyone have some suggestions for a great restaurant?

I don't think you need a limo. Right in your hotel is Asiate, Asian Fusion, lovely view. Very good. IN the same building, Time Warner, is Per Se rest., most expensive in NYC but supposedly fabulous, also view and very hard to get a table (the concierge at Mandarin will be able to do it, I'm sure). Across the street in Trump International is Jean Georges (French).

Daniel (also French) another option across town. March is another also a bit across town.

The only other place I'd consider if you want a totally different neighborhood is Danube, but I admit, I've never been there. It's in Tribeca and is Viennese.

It occurs to me, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the River Cafe. It's not as sophisticated food wise as the other places mentioned here, but it is the quintessential view/food/romantic place in NYC. Some will call it "touristy" but since I'm assuming you are visitors from elsewhere, this should be considered. If you decide not to go there, you might consider it for a drink before or maybe dessert or after dinner since the view is lovely and if you have a limo, why not? It's in Brooklyn, just over the Brooklyn Bridge with spectacular views back to Manhattan.

Just clarifying my previous email - we live in CT so will have the limo to get into NYC. I actually wanted to stay away from the restaurants at Mandarin Oriental because we have been to Per Se, Asiate and Cafe Gray, wanted to try something new.

I'll second the Daniel recommendation. It's a pretty big restaurant, though, if you're looking for an intimate place. Otherwise, in rough order of preference, Tocqueville, Fleur de sel or Babbo would be my picks. I'm also very fond of Gramercy Tavern but that, too, is a large place.

River Cafe, Jean Georges is next door, Daniel is my all time favorite, Babbo is a great restaurant but busy and crowded, I love Il Mulino.........I think you should go to Daniel............

We were actually at Daniel on Friday and had a lovely meal. The food was excellent, but the service and atmosphere really set it apart. Sigh, if only I could afford it more often...

When choosing the restaurant, I actually had much of the same criteria - I wanted something romantic, gorgeous, price no object. It came down to Daniel or Bouley, and I am glad we went with Daniel, but you might want to consider both.

You can't beat the service at Daniel - they've got it down to an art form over there. Always available, never intrusive.

Well, I am not sure you can say it was impeccable - after all, they did forget to bring over a little stool for my bag to sit on until nearly halfway through the meal.

Of course, when they realized this, they apologized profusely - I really thought the captain was going to cry.

From now on, I am only eating at places where my bag gets its own seat.

Definitely do Per Se if you can get a table.
