Need Romantic Restaurant in NYC

My husband and I are planning a 3-day mini vacation to New York City. We will be staying in Midtown during our stay. Can anyone refer me to some romantic restaurants in a $100 to $200 price range?

Cafe Des Artistes, on the lower part of the upper west side, a block from Central Park.

Here come all the recommendations for One If By Land - from personal experience - from the expectation of a romantic dinner that was anything but, I would look for somewhere else.

I love the River Cafe. It is in Brooklyn, but right on the East River with beautiful views of manhattan. A very special place.
And Josie may be jaded, but you can't beat One if By Land for romance.

Chris Ann, I have always wanted to try the River Cafe. Can you please tell me the best way to get there, without a car, from Times Square. Thanks very much.

I don't know if you saw these fairly recent threads on romantic NYC restaurants, but I've topped two of them for you. One is titled "Romantic Restaurants" and the other is "NYC Restaurants". Have fun here!

make reservations, these restaurants book up well in advance. Most restaurants take reservation up to 30 days in advance. You can make a few then cancel the ones you don't want.

Lisa,
You have 2 travel options when going to the River Cafe - taxi or subway.

A taxi from Times Square costs about $12. When you're spending a bundle on dinner, this should be no big deal! If you're wearing uncomfortable high heels, this is the only option, IMO!

If you take the subway, the A or C train is the best option. Get on at 42nd and 8th (entrances are in and near Port Authority Bus Terminal) and head downtown. When you get to the High Street/Brooklyn Bridge stop, exit near the BACK of the train - onto Henry Street / Cadman Plaza West. After you exit the station, do a complete U-turn and head down the hill. After a block you will come to a "T"...bear left, and walk 3 blocks down towards the river (this is "Old Fulton Street" and it runs right next to the Brooklyn Bridge). This is not the best walk, as you have to go under some dark underpasses and cross some high-traffic highway entrance ramps, but besides the traffic, it's safe. The River Cafe is right at the end of the street on the water...look for the trees with the Christmas lights.

I wouldn't bother with Cafe Des Artistes - the interior is kinda cheesy (George Lang's restaurant Gundel in Budapest is fantastic) and the food is not spectacular. Check citysearch.com.

I would suggest Union Pacific, Babbo or Daniel. In midtown Judson Grill has always been very consistent - though the space isn't romantic.
