Montauk

Looking for a hotel that is directly on the beach in either Montauk or Hamptons to celebrate 10 yr. anniversary. Deciding between Gurney's or Panoramic View. Which one is nicer?? Any other recommendations that would be better?

Personal opinion, Gurneys is nicer.
Our room in the Panaramic had a distinct wet mold smell that I could not stand.
We used to rent the small places along the Old Montauk Highway, with fireplaces, we would eat out and rarely cooked but they were more private and I loved a fireplace out at the beach.

Which Hampton are you interested in? I cannot picture a place on the beach in East Hampton but South Hampton might have something ... my mind is blank now

I stayed at Gurneys a few years ago for my 40th. I found it to be very nice, great views and a hospitable staff.

Gurney's is nicer and has many more amenities, but still not worth the outrageous prices they charge for very dated looking rooms. The truth is there are NO really nice places right on the beach. The nicest places to stay tend to be in inns in town. (A Butler's Manor, for example).

Lenhart's and Hartman's Briney Breezes are both cottage type places across from the beach in Montauk. Scarlett has mentioned Burcliffe By the Sea too.

While I'm not a big fan of Westhampton, the Westhampton Bath & tennis used to be the best on the ocean option but current reviews on tripadvisor are scathing.

I thought I had read (either here or on tripadvisor) that the condo rooms at the Panoramic View are nicer than the motel rooms but now can't find anything about that so I must be thinking of a different place.

I would definitely choose Gurneys!!! Gurneys and the panoramic are the same price now and Gurneys is definitely better! It has an indoor pool, spa, restaurant, exercise room, salon, etc. If i'm going to be paying that price for a room... i'd prefer to have all the amenitities.
