Moab Hotel Suggestions
My husband and I are planning a return driving trip of Southern Utah next September; our first trip was six years ago. Checking out websites, I have found the following places:
Sorre River Ranch - Castle Valley Inn - Retreat House - Sunflower Bed & Breakfast - Comfort Suites
Does anyone have any information on above listings or other suggestions?

Moab is centered around its main drag through town, and most of the motels are on it. I'm not familiar with the properties you list; we have stayed at Best Western Canyonlands, which has a good location in the middle of the main drag, and a nice selection of basic amenities. We've stuck with BWs on our Southwestern trips, and this property (along with the one at Capitol Reef) are the nicest.

Just got back from our trip. Stayed at the comfort suites in Moab. Clean, large rooms for the money. Great location and included cont breakfast. Arches NP is one of the best we have been in. Only ckeck out Canyonland NP if you have a park pass and extra time.

My experiences were similar to the above.
We stayed at one of the the Best Westerns; I think it was Canyonlands. It was comfortable enough to be nice.
One thing, try first to make your booking over Internet. I found Internet only prices available.
Being the type who does not trust these computer gadgets, I called the toll free number to make my reservation after seeing the price. To my amazement, I was told that rooms at that price were not on the inventory and that I would have to make my reservation over Internet to get the lowest price available.
I don't fully understand it; I just did it.

I only know the Sunflower B&B, having stayed there in May 2001. It was a lovely inn, with privacy. I would guess it's a cut above the chain motels, if you like small inns, and it's quieter as it's a few blocks from the main drag. It books up quickly, and with a lot of repeat guests. The website reflects the inn well.
Good luck--and have a good time in Moab!

Hi Karen,
I will also recommend the Best Western Canyonlands. My family stayed there for 3 nights this past summer, and it met all of needs nicely. The continental breakfast was very convenient and good. The location was just as RB stated, smack dab in the middle of things.
I must add that we spent a day in the Canyonlands with an outfitter (OARS), and it was money very well spent. The guides were excellent, as was the SUV ride. Check into it. We also spent an afternoon at the Dead Horse Point St. Park. The trails here had incredible views! Of course, it goes without saying that Arches was awesome as well.
Have a great time!

Thanks Tricia for the name of the outfitter (OARS) We also want to do a guided tour while there but I have not started investigating the options yet.
We were in Moab six years ago and the temperature was 107 the few days we were there. Needless to say, we didn't do many things outside after 10:00 a.m. Checking the weather maps, the end of September seems to be about 84. It should make a difference!
We did the Dead Horse Canyon and only a small portion of Canyonlands, and plan on spending more time there. It was, by far, the most beautiful vacation we
have been on

Another vote for BW Canyonlands, and the other Best Westerns in southern Utah, as well (especially Capitol Reef and Zion/Springdale). We spent 2 nights at BW Canyonlands last week, and were perfectly happy with it. The adjoining restaurant, Pasta Jay's, was also surprisingly good. When I checked the BW web site, it only offered two room suites at Canyonlands, but when I called the hotel direct, I was able to book a regular room, so it's worth checking both places.
P.S. I persisted based on RB's recommendation, so RB, if you're still following this thread, thank you!

You're welcome, Ann; glad to help. Another tip; the BW Greenwell in Moab is not up to standard set by BW Canyonlands (older property, cleanliness/finish not as good [at least on our May 2000 visit]), so if anyone has to choose between the two BWs in Moab, stick with Canyonlands.

Hi - I was in Moab last year and we stayed at the Gonzo Inn. It was a blast and our balcony had the most beautiful view of the red rocks. The showers were very cool too - they were sort of like a limestone cave. I really had a great time there. You should check it out before you make a decision.
