Hyatt McCormich Place is an ok hotel but IMO too far from where you want to be. You will not be able to walk anywhere. You will have to take the shuttle from the hotel and then take a cab back which does get expensive. You want to stay right downtown on the Mag. Mile.

House of Blues is in a great location; you can walk to either Michigan Avenue or the Loop in 10-15 minutes. There's a fun wine-oriented restaurant called Bin 36 in the HOB complex, and dozens of other restaurants and many clubs are within a short walk. Plus, HOB is in a landmark Betrand Goldberg-designed building right on the river.

Hyatt McCormik Place is convenient to McCromick Place, and that's about it. It is quite new, but so isolated that it would drain all the fun out of your weekend. Plus, it is right on busy Lake Shore Drive, which is pretty but noisy.

If your weekend getaway is designed to take advantage of the attractions in downtown Chicago, McCormick is one of the worst places you could stay. A long way from the epicenter of what you'll be interested in. HOB is much better for location. Any reason you're only considering these 2?

travleis, I was about to ask the same question. But if you only have the two options - definitely, HOB.
