Good Restaurants for Chicago Pizza near the Hyatt Regency
I will be in Chicago next weekend, and wanted to try some famous "chicago-style" deep dish, or stuffed pizza. I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency and was looking for some recommendations within walking distance or a short cab ride.
Also, any food recommendations for near the Shedd Aquarium or the Art Institute?
Thanks!

I like Giordano's stuffed pizza the most.
I'm sure there will be one near you, just ask the hotel staff. I relly don't like Uno, Duo, or Gino's East deep dish, but it is all about personal preference.
I'm not that familiar with restaurants south on Michigan Avenue, bit if Mid-afternoon teas are your kind of thing
the Burnham Hotel supposedly has a nice one. I like the Berghoff, but it may be more of a cold weather place. It is certainly a Chicago institution.

Many people like Giordano's (it is my husband's favorite) but just so you know, Giordano's is not true Chicago Deep Dish pizza, it is stuffed pizza. For deep dish, I personally like Lou Malnati's or Gino's East both of which are walking distance/short cab ride from Hyatt on Wacker. (I assume that is the Hyatt you mean though there is the Hyatt McCormick Place downtown as well, it is in the south loop area, Hyatt on Wacker is north loop close to Michigan Ave)

This ain't pizza but will answer your second question if you are looking for a good lunch. Try the Under 55 food court at Adams and Wabash. It is in the basement of the building and has a great selection of many different kinds of food. This isn't your typical mall food court but much nicer and good for a lunch while sightseeing.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency last summer. We had Giordano's delivered the night we got there (just too tired to go out). It was the best pizza I've ever had. Even if its not true deep-dish, I've never had anything like it anywhere else.
As we ate, we pulled back the drapes looked at out over Lake Michigan and Navy Pier as fireworks went off. It was one of the those great unexpected moments.

I lived 3 blocks from Gino's East for a while a long time ago. It's the best, although as I understand it, Uno's was the original. Giordano's is good too but slightly different---they make a deep dish as well as stuffed. Easy walk over to Gino's--down Michigan and east on Superior.

Leaving for our annual Wrgiley/Chicago visit on 8-15 and I can't wait for a slice o' Gino's East pie!
The big argument w/ Mrs Kal is she's a Giordano's fan. We may compromise and go to Lou Malnati's. It was my first Deep Disher and was up there w/ Gino's East and Giordano's.
Kam, it's has been awhile since you've been to Gino's East.
It moved 1-2 yrs ago to the old Planet Hollywood building across from Ed DeBevics on, I think it may be Wells?
They brought over pieces of the old, grafitti'd wall, tho.
Giordano's, Uno and Gino's East (don't confuse it w/ Gino's on Rush) are w/in walking distance to the Hyatt.
Mahalo,
Kal

Oh Kal, I'm sorry to hear that! I was at Northwestern at the time and it was our favorite late night pig out place! Many fond memories, but you're right, it's been a long time since I've been there. Last time in Chicago we ate at Giordano's in Evanston. Have a great time at Wrigley---have you been following the awful heat and humidity in Chicago? They're setting records! Hope it breaks for your visit.
