Maui Kai - seeking your opinions
My husband and I are thinking about booking a junior suite (a studio) at Maui Kai for the end of December. The room is very reasonably priced and has an oceanfront view. Before we commit, I'd like to ask about your views re this place. This will be our first trip to Hawaii and I want it to be absolutely perfect. Thanks!!

Arina, there have been several posts on the Maui Kai during the past year. Do a search on Maui Kai to read differing reports. We personally love the place. We prefer the one bedroom corner units that have windows on three sides. Feels more open. Each unit is individually decorated and some have been updated more than others. Its not a luxury hotel, no room service, but the place is great for the price.
You can view some of the units that are available for rent directly from the owners on awaketowaves.com. We rent thru the office however because we get daily maid service. The bldg is literally on the ocean and the view is spectacular. We are going to the Maui Kai in two weeks for our second visit. We last visited in August 2003. I can't wait to get back!

Carbogilligan,
Thanks for advice. I searched the site and found many references to Maui Kai. If we do book a junior suite (the property management has several available) I will ask for a traditional lanai and for a recently renovated unit. The current rate for 1-bedroom is $201, which is probably a little more than we'd like to pay...

Arina;
I have booked a studio through an owner for two weeks in December 2004 (5th to 18th). It is on the 10th fl. (top). Our rate is US$125 inclusive. I have also read all the reviews I can find on the Maui Kai and have yet to find anything negative. We've never been to Maui and are very much looking forward to our stay. Perhaps we'll see you by the pool!!

Hi.
I found our Maui Kai condo through VRBO. It is under the section headed "Kaanapali".
However, this link is the owners particular webpage. Hopefully you can access it.

Arina, my soon-to-be husband and I are going to Maui on our honeymoon next April and have a junior suite booked at the Maui Kai for $110 a night through the owner!!! Check out their website www.paradiseinmaui.com You can see pictures of the condo. Sandra (the owner) also has a nice welcome letter to help you get around Maui.

Arina, I searched thoroughly for someplace to stay that's nice and reasonable. I decided on the Maui Kai . I too, rented the same one Boxer rented but, not until July.
Boxer, would you post a trip report on that condo when you get back in December? It would be nice to hear how you liked it. Thanks

My husband and I are going Nov. 5th. - Nov. 12th. on our first trip to Maui and, thanks to Fodorites, I booked unit #402 @ Maui Kai thru Sandra, the owner. We have been communicating via email since I reserved it and she has been very helpful with questions I have had. I checked out their website showing the studio and am very excited about staying there. After extensive research, I am confident that this is a perfect place for us. I will do a trip report when we return!

I doubt anybody will be disappointed with Maui Kai unit #1003, it's the penthouse studio with a view you will never forget and 2 miles of soft sand beach in either direction right in front. The place has been remodeled and has everything you need to be comfortable, incl. a computer with free internet as well. The vrbo link is indeed www.vrbo.com/27535 and it links to the owner's website which has more pix and info. Enjoy this place, a real gem.
