Maui Hyatt vs. Marriott Ocean Club.
They are essentially next door neighbors but here is the deal. We got a good rate at the Hyatt for the first room ($169) and the second room ($145) both rooms carry at $25 resort fee. These are mountain view rooms so no ocean view. We now have the opportunity to get the King One bedroom studio with a living area, pull out queen size sofa bed, a kitchenette, (micro, fridge, dishwasher, sink) at the Marriott Ocean Club for $326, ocean view no resort fee. We have stayed here before. We liked it. We like the pool, we like the "neighborhood". There are four of us so it would be nice to defray the cost of breakfast with toast, cereal and English muffins in the room. I have been on the grounds of the Hyatt, its nice. I haven't been in the rooms. Any thoughts or is this "paralysis by analysis". Thanks, Dawn

Who are you traveling with? Would it put a damper to have to share one room with another couple? I stayed at the Hyatt this past August and it was very nice. But the Marriott Ocean Club, which as you indicate is basically next door looked very nice also. If one room for 4 people isn't a downer for you, I would say go with the ocean view Marriott room with kitchenette. There, it's settled.

The only drawback to the Marriott seems to be that 2 people get a bedroom and the other 2 have a pullout sleeper in living room with less privacy. Where is the bathroom?
If you can deal with the sleeping arrangements, it seems to make sense -as well as $$ and cents - to do the Marriott. I like to have a kitchenette for breakfast, making lunches to go and for happy hour purposes. The view doesn't hurt either. And $25 resort credit, meh, I hate those.

I hate them, too, but you should check what you get for the resort fee - we were in Kauai recently and got "free" parking and internet for the resort fee. If you have to pay for parking and internet at the Marriott, it will add up to the same daily amount.

I hate them too. This is what the resort fee at the Hyatt covers:
Admission to the fitness center Moana Athletic Club, Fitness classes including Hydro-Fit, Water Aerobics, Yoga, Flexibility Training, Meditation, Body Conditioning, Pilates, Step, Boot Camp and Zumba, in-room coffee and tea, 1-800/888 and local calls, daily Maui News newspaper, one hour of court time at the Tennis Center, and wireless internet access in guestroom
By the way, there is free self parking at the Hyatt but it was a major hassle around luau time - cars everywhere and difficult to impossible to find self parking.

We are traveling with our two college age sons and I am more than happy to let them share the pull out sofa. There are two bathrooms. They are lucky they are coming. LOL. That said, the parking fee is $8 per day, less than the resort fees, WiFi is free, and if I remember correctly, they did have coffee in the room, if not, Costco is near the airport. I now have both resorts and I just have to make up my mind. When I booked the Marriott and I attempted to determine if they take one night or the full amount by calling the 800 number and inquiring, that room was gone. I went ahead and hit "confirm reservation" and it went through. I could not duplicate it nor could the agent so I guess I got the last King suite at that rate. They don't take any $$$, they just charge your card one night if you don't cancel in time.
