Can anyone suggest a Maui hotel with fewer children as guests during the month of June? Would the Wailea area be better? Or is all of Maui filled with families during the summer months? We're checking out honeymoon places for our son. Money is not a prime consideration. Finding some peace and quiet (and a pool/beach chair) is. Thanks.

I'm not positive about June, but we stayed at the Four Seasons in late August and there was barely a kid in sight! Other people on this site have also recommended FS to posters with the same concerns.

I was just in Maui last October and Had a few recommendations.

I was in the Kapalua area and stayed at the Kapalua Villas (www.kapaluavillas.com) and the accommodations were nice for a condo (but be sure to ask for air conditioning if they book that).

For a honeymoon however I think they might want to stay at a nicer hotel. One of the hotels we were able to use was the Kapalua Bay Hotel which had a very relaxing pool atmosphere, a great sunset and a beach also that provided snorkeling opportunities.

The other option in that area is the Ritz Carlton which is on par with most of the Ritz' around the world and has a very nice (although a bit more crowded) pool area.

Another thing to think about is that if the couple golfs, by staying at one of those Kapalua properties they get a very good rate on the Kapalua courses which are some of the best in the world.

As an aside, I would recommend also mentioning the Trilogy catamaran cruises to them for an activity one day. A day-trip to Lana'i and a return during sunset with champagne was nice and relaxing.

In my post-Hawaii post from a year ago, I also hyped the Triology cruise. See if it is possible to board the catamaran captained by a guy who resembles Jimmy Buffett. That crew was perfect. Funny, courteous, knowledgeable. Professional with a capital P.

On the "kid issue" for a honeymoon stay : FS, yes. GWR, no.

Wailea is home to a few more expensive stays. While this doesn't bar children and families, it provides a buffer zone from the cousins of the Griswalds (in the movie).

I would suggest the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea. My husband and I stayed there 2 years ago for our honeymoon. We also had friends who stayed there for there honeymoon as well. (They were the ones to recommend it to us). The hotel is beatiful, great pools, very nice beach, 2 great restaraunts.Many of the people at the hotel were also on their honeymoon. I didn't find too many kids at all. The hotel is all suites, meaning a living room, large bedroom, large bathroom, microwave, and fridge. It was around $350 a night, which is expensive. But we loved every minute of it and it was well worth it.

I agree that the Kea Lani is a lovely hotel, but I also think it draws families because it is an all suites hotel (more beds/rooms for the same price.) For a honeymoon, I'd choose the Four Seasons, or something in Kapalua, an area which I think draws less children.

We don't have kids and we specifically look for hotels with fewer children. AND..my husband is an avid golfer. Since money isn't a problem and it is a honeymoon, I recommend The Ritz. My husband took me there to propose. It is one of my favorite Ritz's in the world. I love the atmosphere and romance that it offers. We mostly stay at Four Season's and Ritz's, and I just LOVE that hotel. It has a wonderful golf course next to it that my husband enjoyed playing while there. The Four Seasons is also lovely too. We were there a year ago and it is a nice hotel. The restaurant, Ferrari's, is very romantic at sunset. Those two would be my pick for a honeymoon. We have stayed at the Grand Wailea. It is a nice hotel with incredible pools. More kids would be there than the other two..BUT they have adult pools where you can have some peace and quiet. Rent a cabana..they are wonderful. Those three hotels, in my opionion, are the nicest for honeymoons if money isn't a big deal.

It's a bit of a sleeper choice, but since no one has suggested it, I will. Hotel Hana Maui is the most secluded and quiet hotel on the island. Its back in prime form again thanks to the folks who manage Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. We have some friends that stayed there on long weekend last year in June and loved it. The spa is very good and while there may be a few families there, I think that there are far more honeymooners and adult couples. It is in Hana, which is not everyone's cup of tea (I love it), but it might be a nice place for them to spend the last two or three days. Just a thought.
