Marriott Waikoloa vs. Outrigger or other place in Kona
Please share your opinions on staying at the
Marriott Waikoloa vs. the Outrigger. If you have suggestions on other reasonably priced places to stay as opposed to both of these, please let me know which hotel and why you suggest it. Thank you!

I stayed at the Marriott last year and loved it. Room was definitely updated, great grounds and beautiful beach -- something not many resorts in its class can boast on the Big Island. I got it on priceline for $130 and it was well worth it.

We stayed at the Fairmont two years ago and we got a really good deal but I am having trouble remembering if it was on their website or it may have been thru AMEX. Their beach is a manmade cove no waves and everyday sea turtles came to visit. The grounds were beautiful. It was really empty in either late September or early October so I think that was why the rates were so low.
I can't compare it to the other resorts you mentioned but it was nice. One drawback was there was nothing close as far as restaurants etc, where the Marriott is close to a small shopping center with places to eat.

I can only say that I love the Marriott Waikoloa, and it's location. I would always choose the Kohala Coast over the Kona town area to stay. Great beaches, and more upscale resorts ... We've stayed there twice, and never been disappointed.

Marriot is a full notch above the Outrigger< take the Marriot. Sometimes a deal on the Orchid, Hilton or Prince will come up and they might be considered. Mauna Kea and Four Seasons are the premium properties
More budget in the area are some off beach golf condos nearby
All the above offer a MUCH BETTER vacation than anything in Konatown.(opinion)
