Mall of America Hotels
I'm thinking about doing a little side trip up to Minneapolis this summer and have a question about 2 hotels. I have done a search and looked at previous posts for other hotel ideas already, so no need to tell me to do that. Can anyone tell me if they have ever stayed at the Holiday Inn Select at Three Appletree Square or the Country Inn & Suites on Bridge Road (not the one across from the mall). Any comments would be appreciated. Also, is the airport and mall area hotels a good area? Sometimes the airport hotels aren't in such good neighborhoods. I'll be on my own, so I want to feel safe. Thanks.

Sorry I can't help with the other two, but the neighborhood (Bloomington?) seemed fine, just pretty much all highway.
At this point I've gotta give two thumbs up here to the staff at Park Inn Suites (compliments of Northwest Airlines.) The hotel itself is definitely not the Wedgewood, where I was travelling from, but the people there were super.

Ive not stayed at the hotels you are considering, but I have stayed twice at the Country Inns and Suites on Killebrew Drive, thats the one directly across the street from the Mall.
My husband has business trips to Minneapolis and my son and I go along occasioanly, we find that particular Inn to be convenient.
The advantage of staying there is that it is a short and easy walk to the Mall, you will see many people walking from that hotel and the one next to it. You dont have to wait for a shuttle, so you can go when you want and return to the hotel when you want.
The area around the Mall is not the most scenic, but I would feel fine there as a single woman traveler.

I grew up a mile from the mall and live in a neighboring suburb now. I don't spend a lot of time at the mall, but when I do go, I go alone because my husband refuses to go there. I feel safe there and in the area surrounding the mall. The mall is like a small city, and does have it's share of crime, but as long as you practice normal common sense you should have no problems. Can't help you with the hotels since I live here and never use the hotels. I do suggest you do something besides the mall while you are here, especially since you are coming in the summer when our city really is at it's best. The mall is fine if you love to shop, but it is just a mall only bigger. Our lakes, theater, parks, museums, and great restaurants are certainly more "special" than the mall, in my opinion!

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Select a few times. The hotel was fine.
I was with my family but I would stay there if I were a single traveler.
Even though it's not in a scenic area it is not in a seedy area either.
Across the street there is an Embassy Suites which we have stayed at and a Hilton. Kitty corner from the hotel is an AmeriSuites I have also stayed there but was not impressed with it.
The hotel seems to hold alot of meetings and we also noticed several Northwest airline employees coming and going.
We ate in the restaurant on two
different occasions. It wasn't that great but with the Mall so close by you don't need to eat there. There was also a nice bar area there. The kids enjoyed the pool. There is a fitness room but I didn't look in there. The hotel has complimentary shuttles to the Mall and to the airport. Hope this helps.

We have stayed at the Country Inn & Suites on Bridge Rd. in Bloomington and it was fairly new and nice. It is not right by Mall of America (about 3 miles away) but they do have a shuttle to the mall I believe. Also easy to drive. We have stayed near MOA and also farther out in Bloomington and didn't find any of the areas to be bad. They were all easily accessible to everything. Enjoy your trip

Thank you to everyone that responded. I do plan on doing other things in the area and found some helpful tips by doing an earlier search on Minneapolis. If anyone wants to add their "can't miss" ideas, that would be great too.
