tampa hotels - Quorum Westshore or Doubletree Busch Gardens
Does anyone have an opinion about the Quorum Hotel in the Westshore area of Tampa (for $135)? It looks great online. We are looking for a relaxing (yankee spring training) getaway in March which is not too expensive. What is this neighborhood like as far as restaurants, parks, walking around?
My other choice is the Doubletree busch gardens - it's cheaper at $107 but the suburban sprawl comments don't make it sound like an appealing area. Any other suggestions in the <$135 range - that are near Legends field, with pool, and in good condition? Thanks!

Definitely go with the Quorum on Westshore btwn. the two choices. Legends Field is very close. And so is Westshore Mall and International Plaza. The other location is way across town and the one highway btwn. Busch Gardens and Legends Field (I-275) is horribly clogged due to construction at the intersection w/I-4, smack in the middle of your drive from the Double tree.
No question, go w/Quorum. It is good location and although I've not been there, looks to be very very nice.

If you're looking for something a little lower priced than the Quorum, try the Tahitian Inn (www.TahitianInn.com) 601 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. 813-877-6721. It's a locally owned motel which was redone in 2003--lots of locals put their over-flow guests up there or stay there themselves if their floors are being re-done or their houses are being tented etc. They have a coffee shop that serves a great breakfast and adequate lunch and every chain restaurant as well as Legends Field is close by. Hope this helps.

I stayed at the Quorum right after it opened couple of years ago. IK found it to be adequte for pre-flight 1 night stay, but nothing fancy. The furniture seemed to be very plain and somewhat cheap. The service was bad, but I'm guessing that's because they opened the doors just a week or 2 earlier. The hotel is located in the airport area with many other hotels. There are some good restaurants and shopping malls in the area.
In the same general area there is an Embassy Suites and they are showing rates of ~$130 per night as well. It has been recently redecorated with all 2 room suites. Each suite has refrigirator and a microwave. Nice features to have when staying for more than 1 night. Much better value IMHO.
Another hotel in the area is the Hilton Westshore and it's showing rates of ~$135 in March.
