Luggage in Train?

Is it possible to take a big piece of luggage in the train (from WDC to Baltimore)?
The web page of Amtrak says "Not checked baggage".

Could anyone provide advice? If it is not possible, what is the best way of reach Baltimore from WDC?

Thanks!

You can take luggage--it stays with you (not checked into a baggage car).

There is a spot for the large suitcases on Amtrak in your train car.

How big and which train? There is detailed info on the Amtrak site, where you would expect to find it.

Yes, you can take large luggage onto an Amtrak train, but you have to deal with it yourself (i.e., with no help whatsoever), getting the bag on and off the train and storing it at the end of the car. If you don't mind that, then the train is fine. No "checked bags" means just that; you cannot check a bag at one station and have it arrive at the next.

But are you going to take Amtrak or the cheaper MARC train? If the latter, then I think the large bag might be a problem since that's a commuter train.

If you're concerned about this, then take a bus, where you can leave the bag in the underneath compartment.

Officially there is no help with carry-on luggage on Amtrak trains, in practice there often is. But you should plan to to DIY. Also, checked luggage is an option, just not on all trains.

There most certainly ARE Redcap folks at Washington Union Station who will very happily help you with luggage. They work for tips. Using them can also facilitate earlier boarding in some cases, also.

I've seen this question before and find it perplexing as to why people translate "no checked baggage" to no baggage allowed. It's just like on any train, hardly anyone checks luggage even if you can on some trains.

A person for whom English isn't their first language, or a person who has never taken a train, or both, would be my guess.

It doesn't seem like an unreasonable question to me.

I have taken a large suite case on the MARC. I chose a seat at the end of the car and was able to stand my suitcase against the back of a seat. I don't think that I would try this at rush hour.
