looking for a spa outside NYC

Hi, I'm looking for a spa, preferrably within a 2-3 hour drive of NYC, to spend a mother-daughter weekend with my mother. The thing is, I'm also looking for a place where my single mom might meet someone nice. Not a prerequisite, but it would help. Any recommendations would be most welcome. Also, if there are any middle-age spas for singles, that would be great too!

There's a spa with an excellent reputation in the Berkshires; Canyon Ranch, in Lenox, MA. They've got a website with slide show and virtual tour at: http://www.canyonranch.com/Lenox/index.asp

It's a beautiful area, but I've never stayed at the spa so have no input on the quality of the accommodations other than hearsay. Have taken some aerobics classes given by their instructors though, and they are truly outstanding!

I heard Canyon Ranch is fabulous BUT very, very expensive. I've heard that from someone who has a lot of money to go around.
Good Luck!

My wife and I have been to Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires twice and the above posters are right on both counts: It's great and it's expensive! (Fortunately, we were guests there and didn't have to pay!) One negative for you, though: Your mother won't meet any eligibles there. However, they will be right at home, as a lot of mothers and daughters go up together.

Thanks for the info, everyone! To clarify, I'm looking for a package with a one night stay and basic services (1 massage, access to a pool). From what I've seen so far, the least I can expect to pay is $400-$600 for the two of us, so I guess that's my price range. Any more suggestions? TIA.

Have you looked into New Age Health Spa in Neversink (honestly that's the name of the town!), NY - 2.5 hrs. from NYC? They have a website.
I would like to hear from others who have visited there.

Check out 'Spafinder' website above.

Canyon Ranch will cost you approx. $500+ per day per person. Remember summer is primetime in the Berkshires especially with the Tanglewood Music Festival happening.

Have you looked into the Norwich Inn and Spa in Norwich, CT ? Approx. 2-1/2 hrs. from NYC. Located outside of New London and close to the wonderful casinos.

There is a new(ish) Marriott in Mystic CT that has a Red Door Spa. Sorry, not sure about prices or distance from NYC. You can get more info on the Marriott website. You could probably get a better deal there in the Fall though, lots of kids in Mystic on summer weekends.

I heard the Emerson Inn and Spa is good. It's a spa with all the amenities, but they also have restaurants and a bar, which some of the "health" spas may not have. The rates for a double room seem to fall in your price range. the web site is:
