Live Music in New York City?

Going to be in New York City from July16-22. Any clubs with live music that someone would recommend. Jazz, blues, folk, rock, pop, etc. Just looking for some interesting places that have live music. Is there a site that I could go to online that would have a great list of what is going on during that week?

You'll have HUNDREDS of options for live music. Check the resources provided by mp, as well as

Enjoy!

When looking for places you should realize that most are open to all and require only tidy dress. But, prices for drinks do tend to be high.

But if you want to visit any of the uber trendy clubs you see listed in the tabloids, realize that

It's VERY difficult to get in unless you're on THE list

Dress should be very trendy and at least look expensive (and you should be young and very good looking)

Fri and Sat nights are not good - Sun and Thurs are

Nothing happens before 11 or 12 at the earliest

To get a table you need to buy a bottle at $250 up

(One way to get in is to pick one of the few places that also serves dinner, go very early - 10 pm or so - to eat and try to stay. But - you won;t keep a table without buying a bottle - see above.)

The "trendy clubs" do not feature live music.

(And Monday is the best night for the best clubs.)

In the summer, I would definitely consider looking into the many free outdoor options for live music as well. There are so many choices! Some of the big ones are:

Central Park SummerStage

River to River Fest (downtown NYC):

Also, if you'd like both music and dancing, Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night's Swing is happening at that time:

Enjoy!
