Music in New York City

Can anyone suggest good live music venues in New York City. I'm interested in any kind of music, except techno, electronic, trance, dance-type music. I particularly like rock (including heavy metal) and blues music, but am definitely open to pther styles.

Go to Time Out NY's website or the Village Voice website or buy the Friday or Sunday NY Times.

The choices in NYC are endless.

My favorites--

Beacon Theater
Webster Hall
Bowery Ballroom
Mercury Lounge
55 Bar
National Underground
Filmore

For metal, I'd look into Highline Ballroom or B.B. King's.

Thanks for posting the link mclaurie.

Reminded me to recommend a favorite site of mine for NY concert info:

www.ohmyrockness.com lists upcoming shows.

It is hit or miss for who might be performing on any given night; I'd look for something that you want to see rather than just showing up at, say, The Mercury Lounge.

In addition to all the other really good suggestions, check out City Winery and Poisson Rouge

Two really good new venues downtown.
