Lion King Tickets in April

We are looking at 8 tickets to "Lion King" in April. They are $100 now. Is there any chance of getting them cheaper as April approaches? Thanks, Owa

They will only get more expensive because you'll have to buy them on eBay! Lion King is still popular. Buy now.

You can always get cheaper seats if $100 is steep. The higher balconies cost less.

The prices will definitely NOT come down. Get them now, as you'll get a better seat selection. It's that simple.

If you're willing to take a risk you can wait until the day you want to go and get on line at TKTS - if there are any seats available they'll be half price. But the chance of getting Lion King tickets that way would be fairly slim to none. You would then need to try to get scalper tickets - at way more than $100 each (probably $250+ on day of if they're available). So if you must have tickets grab them now.

I'd be really amazed. Has anyone ever heard of Lion King tickets available at TKTS?

I haven't been to the TKTS booth myself in a few months, but I can tell you that TV commercials for "The Lion King" have started in the city. I was quite surprised to see this because this is always a sure sign that tickets sales are slipping, and nearly always an indication that tickets for this particular show will soon be available at the booth (the shows that are doing well never advertise on TV - case in point - you could not turn on the TV in the city a few months ago without seeing a "Producers" commercial. Now that Broderick and Lane are back, there has been no advertising whatsoever). The biggest problem you have is that even if you can find them 1/2 price at TKTS, you'll never find 8 seats in a row, so at the very least you'd have to a) take the chance that they have 8 seats for the day you want to go (and get in line a few hours before the booth opens) and b) accept that the 8 of you would be sitting in various locations, and that some would have much better views than others. So, on a positive note, all signs in the city point to the fact that the sales for the show are in definite decline, and chances are decent that you can still get 8 seats for full price that day, even if you can't get them at TKTS. But, as others have said, the only way to guarnatee you'll get seats is to buy them from the box office now.

OK, I'll say it even stronger....Your chances of discount tickets for The Lion King in April are zero! You just ain't gonna see them on sale at TKTS or any place else.

Actually, Howard, I remember a 2002 conversation with a friend who worked for another production. He said that most of the big shows (Lion King, Producers, Mamma Mia, etc.) would rather run a few vacant seats here and there before using TKTS because once they're "on sale for half off" then people tend not to buy at full price. Only when the vacant seats are a nightly occurrence do the tickets pop up at TKTS.

Not sure if he's right or not, but it makes sense.

Dan, your friend is right on the mark. The latest example of this is The Producers. Even when its attendance was at the 75-80% capacity figure, the producers NEVER put a ticket on sale anywhere for anything less than full price.
Anyone who tells people looking for tickets to The Lion King (or Hairspray or Mamma Mia) for April to wait "just in case" is giving them bad advice!

I think you already have enough advice to make a decision to buy them as soon as you know you are going for sure, especially if you want 8 good seats together. However, since I took my family to see The Lion King last April, I thought I would post as well. Either get them way ahead of time or take the other Dan's advice and get less expensive seats. The balcony seats are fine in regards to view but are quite cramped.

Thanks everyone. I think you all make it very clear to buy now. Thanks again.
