Lion King
We are going to the Lion King at the Cadallac Palace in Chicago in May. How do people dress? Is formal dress required? Also is there a place to eat near the Palace that you would recommend? Thanks you for your help.

I'm confused. Formal dress means black tie and tuxedo for men, long gown for women. NO! You'd stick out like sore thumbs!!! Even a suit or sport coat and tie is almost overdressed for the occassion, but is OK if you want to. You will even see people in jeans and casual clothes, but personally I'd opt for a little dressier than that.

Patrick is right - you'll see just about everything. Weekend evening theater performances are the dressiest but still not tux-formal.
As for restaurants, just a few questions: do you have any specific types of food that you do/don't like? any kids to please in the crowd? dinner before or after the theater (what time is the performance)?

Hi Todd
We are going to this in July and I made dinner reservations at 312 Chicago which is right next door to the Palace. I did that in order to take ONE cab to location and not feel rushed. I made reservations at 6:00pm and was told that would give us time to catch the 8:00 performance.

I just topped a thread for yu on Chicago pre theatre dining for some more ideas.
You might also take a look at some of the restaurants on Randolph St., not close enough to walk but a short cab ride away-Blackbird, Marche, etc.
If you are eating close to the theatre, like 312 Chicago, you should have reservations.
I've seen everything from blue jeans to suits at the larger theatres in Chicago.
