LGA to Times Square

Can anyone tell me approx. how much a cab from LaGuardia to Times Square would cost and how long it would take. Arriving next Tuesday around 1:00 p.m. and departing on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Are cabs readily available at the airport? In San Francisco, the BART takes you right downtown from the airport. Is there anything like that from LGA? There are two of us so public transit may not be as economical as for a single. Any opinions?

Taxi is your best bet and yes, plenty are available. At times if a lot of flights have just come in there may be a bit of a line. Don't think I've ever waited in line more that maybe 10 or 12 minutes. The cost should be right around $20 or a little more. I always seem to spend about $25 with a tip. Depending on the cab, they may also ask you to pay the bridge toll or may add it to your bill. The driver will usually mention which. I'm including that in the total price. Traffic is always bad, but it's never taken near an hour. More like 30 to 45 minutes usually.

From Laguardia taxi is relaly the only option. do not be taken in by the drivers standing near the luggage area offering a cheap ride. They are illegal and their "cheap" ride ends up costin gmuch more than the real thing. Use only the official taxi line. Ordinarily you will move to the head of the one in a couple of minutes. the taxi fare to midtown is about $18-$20 plus bridge toll ($3.50) and tip (20% of fare but not bridge toll is appropriate). In the middle of the day there is rarely any special traffic and the ride should take about 30/35 minutes. If there is a breakdown or accident on the bridge or the FDR the ride may take an extra 15-20 minutes.

LGA is very close to the city. Definitely take a cab for 2. It will be about $20-25 depending on traffic as others have said. To avoid paying a toll you can ask driver to take the 59th street bridge (also called Queensborough bridge) where there's no toll. Otherwise he'll probably take the midtown tunnel with the toll.

There are no trains from the airport. You could take a subway but you'd have to get to the subway sattion from the airport-not worth the hassle IMO. Have fun!
