LGA to midtown?
We'll be two people arriving at LGA on a Tuesday morning around 10:30. We'll be going to the Pod hotel on 51st near 1st. How should we get from the airport to the hotel? I've read so many different prices for taxis that I don't know what to believe (depending on what site I'm on I hear everything from $25 to $60, with/without tip/tolls). How much will a taxi cost total with trip/decent tip/tolls included? I've seen a car service price for around $30 + tip/tolls. I'm getting too much contradicting info and just need some help as to what is our best option.

I live very close to the Pod Hotel (2 blocks away) and the average price for a cab can be between $25 and $35 with tips. Have lived in the same apartment for 7 years so have taken cab to LGA probably 50 times in that time period. I think once I paid like $38 and I was mad! Just take a cab and ask to go over the Queensboro Bridge if you want to avoid tolls.

which Tuesday?
You quickest route is to take a cab over the Triborough Bridge to the FDR Drive...I believe your exit will be at 42nd St. (United Nations), then head north on First Ave,
At 10:30 am on a normal weekday morning, the traffic is fairly light.

Taxi for up to 4 people (but on the meter) should be about $35 with tip and toll (unless something special is hppening at the UN). For 2 people the shuttle bus would be just as much - and then you have to get from Grand Central to your hotel.
Check the local news channel web site (ny1.com) the day before you come. If they don;t note any special problems take a cab. If they say special events will cause a delay organize a car servce. Carmel or Dial 7 usually have coupons on the web site so the cost is about the same (and you still have to pay tip and toll).

As others said, the taxi to/from LGA is on the meter so price is affected by the amount of traffic. If the trip is in the next week or so and you're worried about budget, order a car service for a fixed price. dial7.com or carmellimo.com are most popular.
If you're coming in Jan. or beyond, not a busy time, just take a taxi and tell the driver to use the 59th st. bridge where there's no toll at all.
