I have found a cottage in this area, also. We are staying at the Maui Hillside Cottage and we are going there in August! I have never been to Maui, but other posters on different forums have said that this is a newer area and there is a lot of privacy. The beaches are nice, but regadless of whether we stay in Lahaina or anywhere else, there is still some travel time to get to a nicer beach area. Here is the website for the cottage we found: www.mauihillsidecottage.com. Hope this helps.

The area is nice, but if you are seeking nice sandy beaches you will have to drive. The bottom is sandy, but the shore is rocky. There is a beach at Launiupoko, and it is a popular site for beginner surfers because of its gentle, long, rolling waves. There is a man-made baby beach area there too. It is popular spot with locals on weekends.
