Ladies Trip: Ideas for evening in Naples, Florida
Looking for suggestion for after dinner:
Girlfriends who always do a vaca when one of them turns 50 (and for any other excuse we can find so it is an annual event)
One of the gals is celebrating her 50th in April, the rest of the gang already had their trips. Birthday girl picks location. She has chosen Marco Island.
I am all set on what to do in Marco since my mother lived there from the days when there wasn't even a traffic light on island - yup, it was like that once. Girlfriend used to love visiting there, misses it since my mom passed and wants to go back.
We've rented a house w/ a pool, will be doing all the things she loves, lots of beaching, shelling, kayaking, etc and eating in and on island.
We will go to Naples on day - shop 5th/South etc and have dinner at Campiello's - anywhere to go afterwards for our age group to hear some jazz or music that isn't just for the younger age groups?? I am at a loss on this one b/c when I was there I was visiting with mom and had my kids with me and nightlife in Naples is not something I am acquainted with at all -
any suggestions would be helpful - thanks!

We don't have any comedy clubs in Naples so that's out. Ideas for after dinner are staying at Campiellos as they have music (a small combo group) on their patio and there is always a good crowd. At just about any place/bar in Naples, especially Old Naples, you'll find a mix of ages so there's little chance of running into an only 20-something crowd.
Campiello's is on 3rd street and there are lots of shops and restaurants in that area but you might want to consider moving to 5th Ave South after your dinner and hit some of the bars/restaurants on that street. (It's a long walk or a short drive from the 3rd Street area. Park in the free public garage on 4th Ave which is one street north of 5th) There is an authentic Irish Pub with an Irish Band playing which is kinda fun. You might also try Zoe's (I don't think they have music here anymore but they have a great selection of wines by the glass.) Yabba's Island Grill is also fun as well as just about any other place on 5th. Don't worry about the age thing. In Naples, you could be the youngest in the place at age 50! I'm 45 and when my husband and I go out, we usually are in the minority, age-wise. These "old" folks in Naples love to party!

Thank you Mollmatt - we all love the wine by the glass (Zoe's) and the Irish Pub rec, most of us are Irish and that would be fun.
If you return, or someone else, do you also know any recs for a good dress shop-one of the gals looking for a mother of the bride dress but not the usual "mother of the b dress at a bridal shop" -
thought we might look with her while in Naples

There are lots of dress shops on 3rd Street, try Fancy Nancy's, Coplons, Sassy Boutique, Marissa Collections(VERY expensive...think NYC or Paris). You'll find all kinds of shops, she should be able to find something in one of the boutiques. No chains or big department stores in this area, just smaller more specialized places.
Also, I just read today that Zoe's has Jazz entertainment on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I thought of a couple of other places as well, Trulucks, which is located in the same building as the Irish pub (by the way, I didn't tell you the name of the pub....it's called
McCabe's and it is located in the Inn on Fifth.) Back to Trulucks...this is the Inn's nicer restaurant and they have a Piano Bar that sometimes gets lively. Also, Vergina, an Italian place across the street from McCabes also has a piano bar that seems to get some action. If you are going to be there on a Friday or Sat night, things will be pretty crowded. On Thursday nights there are art walks and gallery open houses that draw large amounts of people to 5th Ave. South. Have fun!

mollmatt thank you so much - you picked everything we love - esp the thurs night, the art and galleries are a big pull for us so we will definitely go there then as well as at least one other night if not two !! Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes - we aren't going until April 25 for one week but I had some time the last few days so thought I'd get a jump on it ! Thanks again - I'll post when we return.

Actually the busiest nights now both on Third Street South and on Fifth Avenue South is Thursday. Only one Thursday night a month is "special" on Fifth, but no one remembers which Thursday that is, so all Thursdays are very busy. And every Thursday night is a "special" event night on Third Avenue South during season. Of course, Fridays and Saturdays are also very busy.
You've been given good suggestions. Truluck's has lately had the most action that I'd think will appeal to you.

How quickly things change. Tonight (Friday) at 10:30 there was a small crowd at Truluck's. Bar Lurcat on Fifth was jammed, and spilling out onto the porch and the sidewalks.
There was a very funny and entertaining piano player/comedian at Ridgeway's off Third Street South.

Here's a site for the March listings of entertainment place by place on both 5th and 3rd. I'm not sure if it will all be the same at the end of April
