La Quinta Inns.... How do they rate...

compared to Hampton Inns, Comfort Inns, Holiday Inn Express, etc.? We will be in St. Petersburg, Fl. this month, and it looks like one of the very few options that will allow our doggie. Have never stayed in a La Quinta.... I know they aren't luxurious, just basic accommodations which is fine. If you've stayed in one, was it clean, and was the breakfast passable? Thanks, guys!

My dad uses them a lot for company travel. He thinks they're swell. Apparently they renovated/rebuilt many of the older ones about 5-10 years ago.

Hi bonnie!
I cannot compare, we only stayed at one La Quinta and one Comfort Inn when traveling to Fl with Pup.
The La Quinta was pretty new and gorgeous! Our room ( just a room with a king bed) had a small foyer with microwave and fridge, desk, huge bed, big tv and huge bath.
They were so nice about Pup, offered to check on him if we left him alone, which they did check, to see if he was growling/barking. They said he was quiet. I think he was on the other side of the door, being really quiet until he knew what the person on the other side of the door was gonna do LOL
The Comfort Inn was kind of dark and dingy, but happily, that was just one night in Rocky Mt NC.
Check and see how old the La Quinta is..that might help you picture it better. We had to stay for 3 nights since our house was not quite ready when we moved down, so I remember that La Q fondly
All I usually have is coffee and I don't even remember it, so at least it wasn't bad enough to remember

I admit I am a bit of a hotel snob but if necessary, I will stay at a La Quinta Inn and Suites property.
This prototype was developed about 8 years ago and they all look identical, with interior corridors. Stayed in the Boulder LQ Inn and Suites recently and it was nice enough, clean and offered a limited b'fast, with those really good waffles you make yourself.
I really dislike staying at the old, renovated properties but had to in Wichita Falls, Tx. It was funky.
I always call prior to booking and ask exactly how old the hotel is... If they call it a LQ Inn and Suites ask when it was built. If it is less than 10 years old it is a consistant product, more than 10 years... well, you could be in an old motel.

We stayed in the La Quinta Inn in Tallahassee during an FSU home game weekend. It was decent and we would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Great Falls, MT and found it to be clean, the suite was nicely sized and worked well for us. Warm, freshly baked chocolate chunk cookies in the lobby at night, free use of business center with computer/internet, clean, comp. breakfast with waffles, suited our needs just fine--and waaaaay better than the accomodations we found once we got the the government lodges of Glacier National Park.

I stay in LaQuintas fairly regularly, and I have always been pleased with the cleanliness and the comfortable beds. Their breakfasts are usually good, and I like their new make-your-own-waffles.

Hampton Inns are still my favorite, btu they are usually significantly more expensive that LQ.

i stayed in colorado springs and omaha this fall and found the la quinta's nice (after i actually found the omaha l.q. which is very difficult). co. spr. room opens on outside balcony, omaha on hallway, much nicer. the only drawback for me was they both only had a few tv channels, some of them l.q. blurbs. missed a favorite show. no problem with travelpet.

very clean and passable breakfast.

Got a LaQuinta in Denver (Westminster) with a 2-star Priceline bid for $35 and it was very nice! The rooms were excellent and the front desk even phoned the room after we checked in to make sure everything was satisfactory. The breakfast was good, with cereal, bagels, fresh fruit and even a waffle maker.

Bonnie,
I would say the La Quita Inns are a step above the chains you mentioned. On our trip west in September we stayed at two, Del City, OK and San Diego. Both were excellent with nice sized rooms and very good CBs. In San Diego we were able to walk to Old Town which made the margueritas that much more enjoyable.

Friends stayed ot one in Williamsburg & raved about it.

Awhile back LaQuinta acquired Baymont Inns & Suites, a good chain in themselves, and more recently they acquired the Tage Inns in the Boston area ... So while they are expanding, it appears they are still keeping an eye on quality. Strangest thing is that they will split the Tage Inn in Andover MA into a LaQuita AND a Baymont, with separate lobbies and each with their own amenities, etc.
