Kona Kai resort in San Diego

My daughter and I are going to San Diego the week after Easter. We'd like to stay at a beach front hotel and are looking at the Kona Kai..........has anyone stayed here? Any feedback would be appreciated........

Thanks!

It is not beachfront but rather more "Bayfront". There is one street between the Hotels on the MArina channel side and the lovely bayfront path. Ask for a BAy/Ocean view room at the end of the property. I would stay at any of the Hotels as they are in a nice location to San Diego Airport, sights etc.
You will need to drive to a ocean beach..

I've live around the corner from Kona Kai on Shelter Island (which is not really an island more a small strip of land pushed out into the main water channel in/from the ocean to San Diego Bay)for 12 years now. There are only Hotels and a few restaurants on this strip of land and it does have a resort Island feel with great views of the Bay and Downtown...and of course all the boats etc.

If you want ocean beachfront..then Hotel Del in Coronado or ther are a couple of ocean bechfront hotels in La Jolla.

Great information on http://sandiego.org for where to stay click on Mission Bay/Beaches

You may consider Ocean Park Inn, Pacific Terrace Hotel or Tower 23 hotel - all on the beach. We have stayed at the Ocean Park Inn. You do want a top floor room. The area attracts quite a young crowd.

Come back with questions.

If you want a Pacific Beach condo - check out the mid-rise Capri - which has beautiful views of the Ocean.

SandyBrit~I booked at Ocean Park Inn before I read your post.... I'm not worried about the young crowd~I'm traveling with a teeanger!

Any recommendations for moderately priced (entrees $15-20) restaurants? We both like seafood, Italian and Mexican food.......

IJar I never knew that is where you lived We just were in your "hood" yesterday - took our soon to be 15 year old and her friend to see PLNU - and my husband and I were reminiscent about humphrey on the bay... so many good memories there.

1JAR can help you with places to eat once you decide on where to stay.

Our next visit to San Diego will be in May.
