Ocean Front Hotel in San Diego

Hello everyone, I am planning my 50th birthday and would like to spend part of my trip in San Diego. I was looking for a Ocean front Hotel where you can walk right on the beach. I have seen a few reviews for Pacific Terrace Hotel, Catamaran Resort and Tower 23 (?). Does any one have any information on these hotels. I just want to relax on the beach, maybe ride a bike, swim do a little shopping. Any suggestions and comments on these or other hotels would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

There's only one hotel in San Diego as far as I'm concerned, the Hotel del Coronado. Ocean front on Coronado island, walking distance to shops and restaurants of the town and historic. My preference is for the rooms in the original 1888 building but if you prefer a new resort feel they have those too. http://www.hoteldel.com/

I would also go for the Hotel del Coronado. So special. Pacific Terrace and Catamaran are on Pacific Beach. A more hectic and party- type area. It would be fine, but Coronado is nice for a special occasion.

The Del is classic no question. And if you are on the beach in PB - you are really not in the middle of party central.

There are also some nice hotels up the coast - on or very near the beach - in La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Oceanside, and the like. Just google away to find what you like - and come back with more Q's.

And while it fronts San Diego Bay - v. the Ocean which is about half a mile away - Loew's Coronado Bay resort is also beautiful.

Again, I would pick the Del fist - but as for a place with more onsite amenities - and a great view of Coronado Bridge and downtown SD - Lowe's is great - and you can walk through the underpass to get the Pacific/ocean side. You might even see some Navy Seals training/jogging down the beach.

hotel del is definitely upscale. very nice area for biking. if going with coronado, another hotel to consider would be glorietta bay hotel. i like pacific beach...a little livelier and a lot of selection for restaurants...long boardwalk to walk/bike/blade along the ocean and there is also the bayside which is nice to walk around. the catamaran faces the bay and is just a short walk to the ocean beach. pacific terrace gets good reviews and is right on the ocean beach. tower 23 doesn't have a pool if that's important to you.
