Has anyone signed up an any of the package deals that some hotels are offering?? Or and ideas for going to see the exhibit.

The hotels mostly are booked and rather high. I have a reservation for June at the Doubletree on S. Broad but was wondering if you know of any good deals in the area around the Exhibit.
A lot of the hotels have deals where they are including tickets to go see King Tut event. We can go anytime.

I just checked for a friend and now its up to $233

Is he out and about again? He's the Robert Goulet of ancient antiquities. I've still got an unopened bottle of King Tut Pepsi from his 1980s comeback tour.

I'm rather surprised there isn't more activity on this subject.
I got a bed at the only hostel in Philly. I'm awfully confused as to why there's only one. *shrugs* But I was only able to get one night and there's a curfew. I can live with the curfew,I'm sure I'll be super exhausted from all the sights and walking.
I'm going Sat. March 31st. I'm so stoked.

Pleased be warned about parking costs in the area of the Tut exhibit. Most lots charge $25 after two hours. Consider public transport or a hotel package that includes parking.

We booked at the Residence Inn for 4/21 and I don't have the price handy, but it was fairly reasonable, given that it includes 2 go anytime tickets. That's a Saturday & I priced the package for the preceding Thursday night, and it was a lot more expensive. You might want to look at alternative dates if your schedule permits.

We've got tickets for Saturday (4/21) was wondering if anyone had been yet and what they thought.

Also as far as parking goes, since we're driving up from MD, and then driving on to NEPA. We're also doing Independence hall in the afternoon before we go to King Tut, any recommendations for parking would be greatly appreciated.

I got tickets for the evening and I highly recommend it because it's not as crowded as during the day. I parked on the street and fed the meter and I was good to go. Although I didn't hang out in the city,I saw the exhibit and went for my hostel. I was so tired and I'm not a fan of Philly or driving around in it. The exhibit was awesome. Bought a few trinkets. I'd go back but I think when I go to Egypt in a few years will be far superior.



Sorry I couldn't help about hotels and I didn't go to any restaurants. But again prepare for long lines and for the exhibit to be very crowded if you go during the day.

tzarinna, what time did you go and how long did you spend? We have untimed tickets for this Saturday and I'm thinking we might want to wait until about 4 if the crowds will be thinner. I saw the first Tut in DC way back when and remember how crowded it was.

Ruth, if you saw the first Tut exhibit, then be prepared to be disappointed. This one doesn't even come close.
I saw it it Chicago and, frankly, I didn't think it was worth money.

We are going this weekend....and I was hoping that it would be even better than the one in DC ( about 30 yrs ago).

Can you be a bit more specific on what caused the disappointment.

Several reasons (listed in no particular order):
*It wasn't worth $25, the cost in Chicago, I believe. (I was lucky and was given the ticket.)
*It was very crowded.
*The audio tape with Omar Sharif's narration was not very good.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
*The items on display didn't come close to matching those in the previous exhibit.
By the way, the last item is the concensus of many, many experts who have seen it.

Boy, that's a bummer but I can't cancel now. Have other people going with us. So we'll spend less time at the Tut exhibit and more time elsewhere in Philly. Haven't been a tourist there in about 20 years, so am looking forward to it.

I went late around 8:30,9 pm.
The guy at the hostel I stayed in got wind of how crowed it was from folks that went. I had no line to stand in,there was only a slight crowd around pieces. When I say crowd,3 or 4 people.
