hotels filling up on Paris June

I think Kerouac posted a topic about the european football (soccer) cup in France.
Matches will be oganized in several cities between june 10 and July 10 (for Paris) with the result that there are already less available rooms than I'm used to with some price variatoin quite important from week to week for the same hotels. And very few cancellable offers.
So pay attention if you go to Paris.

I have always considered June to be high season for hotels in Paris anyways.. but this is helpful for those who are delaying booking their hotels. We are going in June this year also.. but I booked 2 months ago before Christmas, and still some of my first choices were booked..

I am amazed when folks leave hotel booking to last minute for holidays they know are coming up in coming months( it is different if you have a last minute trip to deal with.. then you cant help it) .. you can ALWAYS find a room or apartment.. but may not be area you want or price you want to pay.

I always try to book a refundable room.. so if I find something I want more I can always cancel the first and rebook( and have done so ).. but at least I have something in my hand.

June is not low season, but hotels are not as hard to come by usually as in, say beginning of October when they are really booked up. And the beginning of July is definitely not usually high season.

The situation will be very volatile, because lots of blocks of hotel rooms are already reserved and the same blocks will be cancelled as teams are eliminated. Every time a major team is eliminated (say, England or Germany) it will change the whole situation for hotel bookings, much more than if Albania is eliminated. Unfortunately, it will probably not change the jacked up hotel rates.

Hi Christian
You think exactly like my wife, who never wants to understand that june in Paris is the highest season for hotels. June shows 90% of occupancy for hotels whilst september-october shows 85%.

So 90% of occupancy usually without soccer means how much if you add the soccer ?

Without the soccer, june hosts some fashion shows, Le Bourget and all these businessmen (and businesswomen) who want to close deals before summer break.

You'll see in the graphs that you can access in the link that business nights drop from about 40% to 20% from june to july and 16% to august (really nobody works in Paris in august)
What suprises me is that a graph shows the same for 'résidences de tourisme parisiennes' (touristics places to stay in Paris) : june is highest, july quite low.

June is also very popular with tourists who think they are beating the summer rush( but they arent) ,and i often find great hotel deals from mid july thru august. Business travel is slow in august so more rooms are availble, and discounted!

June is the month with the most Americans. July has the most Germans and August has the most Italians and Spanish. The Chinese are coming during every imaginable season but once they get the hang of it, they will probably choose their favorite months and squeeze everybody else out.

While tourism in Paris went up 1.6% last year in spite of the terrorist attacks, Chinese tourism to Paris increased 48.9%.
