KeyWinNovPackageDealAtSheration.AdvicePlease!

I have been looking around for deals for our 10th anniversary in Key West comming from Atlanta. So far Orbitz has 5nights at the Sheraton and round trip air for $1215.Your thoughts,ok ,good ,bad and maybe other places to search for prices. Should I purchase now or wait?
Thanks,
Scott Woodall

In Key West you want to be in Old Town within walking distance to Mallory Square and Duval St. The Sheraton is on the other side of the Island and is not within walking distance of anything. Parking is a huge problem in Key West and the shuttle runs sporadically from the Sheraton. The price on Orbitz sounds high to me. Have you tried to book your air and hotel seperately. Another option is a b&b. The Marquesa, Heron, Center Court, Island City House get good reviews here. Do a text search on Key West and you will find more recommendations.

Another thought is to try to bid on priceline for your air and hotel. Check out biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com before you attempt priceline.

Other sites to try: expedia, travelocity, hotel sites, Hyatt, Hilton and the Ocean Key Resort, quikbook.com. Check the airline sites for airfare and you can subscribe to fare watcher from travelocity that will alert you to lower fares. You can also fly into either Miami or Fort Lauderdale and rent a car and drive down. Airfare will be less into those cities.

We're leaving on Thursday (May 22). "After months of waiting, I heard Clark Howard list a great rate for K.W. a few months ago($175.)pp/rt. This place is ALWAYS so expensive to fly into(let alone to stay at).
My husband wanted Ocean Key Resort, but so many people complained about the cruise ships docking outside your hotel room-we began looking for a B&B for more local color. We chose Curry Mansion-got an upgraded deluxe room with canopy king-size bed, poolside for 5 nights. It is located a little ways from Duval-giving us the privacy and quite we wanted after crazy days thru Duval and Market Sq.
Our room was $160. night-includes full breakfast(many B&B's there only offer continental)and it's so nice to be able to get up and just walk into another room for your breakfast-PLUS, they serve hor's d'oeuvres in the evenings. The mansion is filled with antiques and local color, and a fantastic view from the top of the home.
We travel often, and I like to stay in upscale places and get the most value for the $$$.Plus I'm a foodie
Key West was on sale last week on Clark's website-same we paid months ago. Have you checked it out yet?
Give it a try-we have the greatest advantage traveling from Atlanta-CLARK HOWARD!!! Ya'll have a wonderful anniversary! Eat lots of key lime pie...

The cruise ships dock in front of the Hilton not the Ocean Key Resort. For $160 sounds pricey this time of year. It is starting to slow down there and there are bargins to be had!

The Ocean Key is on the same street as the Hilton but the ships dock in front of the Hilton. You were given some bad info.
Weren't you the ones looking for something inexpensive, like around $100? What happen to that budget? You mention you travel often and like upscale places so while you are down there check out The Marquesa Hotel, The Heron House and The Gardens Hotel. They are probably the only B&B's that are considered upscale by most. We love the Marquesa personally. Between the Ocean Key Hotel and The Curry Mansion I would of had to of picked The Ocean Key. I understand they have some of the nicest rooms on Key West with a great view.

Who is Clark Howard? And is that a shameless promotion?

P.S. If you are a foodie don't waste your time eating at the b&b. There are too many good breakfast places down there! Oh I am jealous! Try Pepe's and Blue Heaven! There are many more but these are the places not to be missed.

Clark Howard is a nation-wide consumer advocate, his radio show comes out of the Atlanta area daily. He also has an excellent website dedicated to helping consumers with every issue imaginable. As for travel issues, he quotes daily specials from all the major airlines to save people $$$ traveling. We get the greatest airline discounts this way.
We can travel more frequently for less.

Is this price for both of you?? Personally, I think that's pretty decent. It's always SOOO expensive to fly to Key West, and I've always been a little partial to Orbitz. I dont' know anyone that's ever had a problem with them...and though you might find something cheaper, you have to understand what might go along w booking anything cheaper (you know?)...

Have fun! I've stayed at the Sheraton in Key West, and while it may be a little pricey, it's well worth it.

have fun!
