Key West Ferry

I had been told that there is a ferry from Ft Meyers to Key West called FastCats. Just found out it's not up & running yet. Are there any other ferries in the area going to KW?
Thanks

The ferry between Ft Meyers and Key West is called the Key West Express.

Thank you, Susan. Thought we were going to miss the best part of our vacation. Also, thanks for all the info posted on the other board.
I'll have a mojita & monkey nuts in your honor

It is called Key West Express. It leaves early a.m. with about 4 hours travel time each way and you spend approx. 6 hours in Key West. You will return to Ft Myers around 10 p.m. All for the bargain price of $129 per person!

Based on the website you can stay overnight & catch the next days return ferry, but they don't make any guarantees that you will get back..
Think I'l give them a shot

We did that ferry trip one year. What a miserable trip. It was so COLD. They have inside seating if you get there early. Better have a winter coat if you get stuck riding out in the open. The stay in Key west was 5 or 6 hours, not enough time to enjoy the sights. The next year we drove down from Ft. Myers Beach and enjoyed the night life. It's different than anything you see in Iowa.

You could fly...Cape Air, I think. There is also the Key West Shuttle for about the same price. Driving takes 5-6 hours, unless you run into a lot of traffic on US 1 in the Keys. Enjoy Key West, it's a fun town. Take a Conch Train tour to learn about the Key.

Last summer while touring Florida we did the Key West Ferry Express also. It is 4-5 hours each way on the ferry. It is a large ferry with an abundance of inside seating. You can arrange to stay overnight in Key West if you like. I saw several people with suitcases. That is how I know. It gets there around 11 or 12 then it leaves Key West at 5p.m. Basically it was enough for me.We rented mopeds, did a tour, ate and had a few drinks. I understand you can take a plane for 149.99pp and the ferry is 129pp. In Ft. Myers there is a little stand on there boardwalk where you can make reservations for various trips around like the Everglades Tours, and this Key West trip. You just have to hope for calm seas. I understand it can get rough at times.

I think the confusion about it not running is that the Fast Cats or high-speed ferry that has been planned for some time has never started service. There was news on local TV just last night, that they may be finally about to start service. This is a new system that is supposed to shave a couple of hours off the time, and hopefully offer better service than the Key West Express.

Try this link. I got it off a question I asked several months ago and found it to be very helpful.

Marco Aviation (Marco Island Airport) offers the most convenient and reasonable trips to Key West. It is a 35 minute flight and they offer one way, all day stay, or overnight.
