Kauai Marriott -- Deluxe Pool Side Room

We are planning a trip to Maui and Kaui next year. This will be our second trip to Hawaii, having spent time in Oahu and the Big
Island on our first trip. We are very much on a budget. Last time we stayed at Outrigger properties (Waikiki on the Beach, and Outrigger Waikiloa) and were very pleased
with our rooms. We cannot afford oceanfront, but we have had good luck with oceanview.

In Kauai, our first choice (Kiahuna Plantation) is not available. Based on Fodor posts, it seems like the Kauai Marriott would be a great choice. A deluxe pool view room is available for $289. That is about as high as we can afford to go. It sounds nice: "Pool/Ocean View overlooking 26,000 sq. ft. pool with limited view of Nawiliwili Bay". From the photos, I'm not exactly sure of the resort's configuration. Looks like it might be three high rises surrounding the pool. I suspect the above room would be in one of the side-facing high rises.

Has anybody stayed in that type of room? Was it a nice location? Would you recommend it, if oceanfront is not feasible?

Thank you so much for your input,

Rick

You're right about the configuration, and I suspect right about the room being in one of the side towers. We stayed in the tower facing the pool and the harbor.

Rooms are nice, with decent sized bathroom, a couch, lanai with table and chairs, and a small refrigerator. I can't remember the floor we were on, but the one niggly I had was that the view of pool and bay/harbor was largely obstructed by the palm trees. The other point that may be an issue is that ocean front is really bay front, with the view opening to the bay and partial ocean as opposed to open ocean.

We liked the Lihue location, about equi-distant from north and SW coast attractions. But frankly, when we go back, we'll look for a place around Poipu or Princeville/Hanalei, depending on time of year.

Beachbum, thanks for your response. Looks like I will book a deluxe pool side room and hope that the palm trees don't get in the way.

I'm planning to stay there also. Just how many floors are these "towers"? Reason I ask is I stayed in a Marriott some years ago at Palm Desert. Every time I got to the pool without my sunglasses or tanning lotion, etc, was a real journey to go back up elevators, down halls, etc, then all the way back down to pool.

Rick, we stayed in one of the rooms you're describing. Our room was on the fourth floor and looked out on the roof of the pool. The roof was flat and was made to look like a garden, but there was very little view. Ask for a higher floor. Nice hotel and grounds.
