inns or b+b rec. in Vermont

Hi,
We'd like to go to Vermont this summer for a long weekend (or sun. - wed.)for under $200. per night at a place that has reasonably sized rooms and a private bath. If possible, we'd like to be near or on a lake/river where we can kayak. We also would like to do some biking. Good food nearby or on location is also a plus.
Any suggestions are appreciated;
Thanks;
Sherry

I like Woodstock -- pretty town, lots to do nearby, including Queechee gorge, Simon-Pearce glassworks, cheese/maple syrup farms, etc. I've stayed at the Apple Butter Inn on one occasion and liked it.

I'm not sure if it's within your budget though, but check out the Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville. You've got Kingdom Trails just down the hill in East Burke (www.kingdomtrails.org) and Lake Willoughby 20 or so minutes away where you can kayak. The area is beautiful.

No, but I grew up in the area and know that it is very popular. Also, it's in a beautiful setting.

This web site might be helpful to you:
www.champlainbikeways.org

also, we used to spend time in Middlebury, Woodstock, Burlington area - all near or on Lake Champlain - and often referred to :

www.midvermont.com, which may have info for you on hiking and kayaking to help you decide an exact location easiest to serve your interests.
Beautiful country ! enjoy

I agree that Wildflower Inn would be a good choice. It is very family oriented, with kids activities every morning (I think). I have never stayed there, but have eaten there. Another choice in the same town is Mountain View Inn (not sure of the name). Closer to the water would be the Inn at Craftsbury Common. The town is renowned for its rowing (sculling) school. We love to bike at Kingdom trails or you could do a beautiful loop around Lake Willoughby. Make sure to check out the very funky Bread and Pupper theater and local hikes (our favorite is Wheeler)

Many thanks.
I did check out the kingdom trails and it looks like a great place to bike - I will check out Champlainbikeways, as well.
As far as the Wildflower Inn goes - we don't have kids and would probably prefer a quieter setting.

white mountain in in arlington, just outside of manchester.
biking right at the entrance to the b&B and a river where you can have the kayak/canoe delivered right there and they will pick you up down stream however many minutes/hours later you want. forget the name of the kayak company but they were recommneded by the B&B. located out of NY which is actually just 20 minutes or so from the vermont border.
i like the main house better than the cottage houses. beautiful grounds and great breakfast.
good luck

Hi again,
My DH just surprised me by telling me that he won an auction for the Mountaintop Inn in Chetteden VT. it's supposed to be near Kilington.
Have any of you heard of it?
Appreciate all your help;
Sherry

Will you be flying or driving to VT? If you fly to Burlington, I'd suggest the North Hero House. Lovely Inn, excellent restaurant, directly on Lake Champlain, and perfect for biking. Check their web site
