Inexpensive Nantucket digs...Do they exist?

My husband and I would like to getaway to Nantucket for Labor Day weekend but every B&B I've called is at least $180 a night with a 3 night min. We were hoping to keep it in the low hundreds. Anyone have any good recommendations for an inexpensive stay?

I'm sorry but I'm afraid it is just not possible to stay on Nantucket for the rate in the low hundreds. Try the Nantucket Inn though. I think they are the only place with NO minimum, but the rate is probably about $ 190/night.

Nina,
Shame on you! I wouldn't recommend the Nantucket Inn to my worst enemy and you probably don't even know Rachel!

Sadly, you are correct, however, ACK can't be done at that price, especially over a major weekend like that.

Sadly - Nantucket is not affordable for alot of us - but most of Cape Cod IS and there are many many lovely areas there to enjoy. We love the area of Wellfleet and Cahoon Hollow Beach. You can still have fine restaurants, shops, beaches without all the crowds and stuffiness of Nantucket. Go to Nantucket for a day if you must and drive around. It is very beautiful but certainly not a bargain in sight.

Yes, Rachel, there are reasonably priced accomodations on Nantucket. However, they are all well kept secrets of those who have paid the S&H for the "free literature" offered by the visitor's office and have visited Nantucket many times and wandered about in search of same for future reference. It is highly unlikely that anyone would reveal such hidden gems on a web forum. Too bad you didn't post a legitimate e-mail address, though, as I would have sent you a few valuable suggestions.

There is the youth hostel, which is quite cheap. One on the VIneyard as well.

Right you are x, but Rachel was looking for something without a 3 night minimum, and The Nantucket Inn fits the bill. Rachel, maybe you can post an 3-mail so that Maxie can reveal her "secret gems". I've only been going to Nantucket for 18 years so I'm not familier with any of those low cost lodgings she claims exist, with the exception of the youth hostel, which I didn't mention as I wouldn't think it a great option for you and your husband.

The Cape is a good alternative, but I think you'll find prices almost as high and the same minimum stay requirements on weekends. Due to the short season in New England, it's very hard to find any bargains.

Maxie is right. We stay at a lovely place every year, nicely located a few short blocks from the main street, where rooms are just over $100. Rooms are plain, and some are compact with tiny bathrooms, but all are attractive and comfortable. The continental breakfasts are terrific. The views from the upper floor porches (accessible to everyone) of the harbor and the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets are magnificent. There is no minimum stay and none of those ridiculous cancellation policies. The first time we stayed there, we left a day early because we both came down with dreadful colds (as did everyone else on the island, you should have seen the line at the pharmacy!). To our total amazement, they asked what was wrong, then demanded our credit card so they could issue a refund for the unused night. This is virtually unheard on on Nantucket. NO WAY I would ever "share" this place on a public forum. But, if the original poster had given a real e-mail address, I may have been inclined to let her know about it privately.
