inexpensive lodging in oahu
Ilima, Ilikai, Waikiki Royal Garden, Sheraton Princess Kaualani - which is better? Has anyone stayed at these places? I have an 8 year old granddaughter and am looking for a clean, safe room that does have a pool. What's a better option?
Thanks for your help!

My choice would be Sheraton PK. It is directly across the street from the best part of Waikiki Beach. Not far to walk with the beach gear. Safe, fun area. Lots of places to eat, shop, and find free entertainment (hula shows, movies on the beach, etc.) Avoid Ilikai. They are having some kind of dispute over the electric bill; last I heard some units might get electricity shut off. Also, long walk to beach.

I like The Hawaiiana Hotel or The Breakers on BeachWalk. They are smaller hotels, a few blocks from Fort de Russey park and the beach. It's a modest place but there were kids staying at Hawaiiana both times I was there and seemed to be having a ball. It's set in pretty gardens with two pool areas.

The Ilikai is having problems. The lender foreclosed on a few hundred units bought by an investor who was having difficulty reselling. The hotel operation in the buildings was threatening to lay off all staff and close.

I would like to suggest one of the condos at Ilikai Marina - we've rented one there (vrbo) for a week for $950. But now you have me worried that our rental will be affected by the Ilikai Hotel's problems! It is separate, isn't it?
