Are we likely to run into roads impassable by snow if we take this trip in May or June?

Anything's possible, but it would be highly unlikely to have snowy roads at that time of year. Even at the higher spots like over Boulder Mtn on hwy 12 or around Telluride.

Southern UT should be in the 80 - 90 range or hotter in Zion and Monument Valley areas. Telluride probably runs about high 70's.

I agree. Running across roads that are "impassable" with snow at that time of year is highly improbable. You may run across a freak snow squall that dusts the road at higher elevations (like around Telluride) but even that would be rare.

I like the idea that you're going from Grand Junction to Telluride via Gateway. That's a much more scenic route than the one through Montrose.

I'd skip Grand Junction (what's there?) and go directly from Moab to Telluride via 46, 90, and 145. Then spend the time saved driving from Ridgway to Durango through Silverton.

I drove the Gateway route a few years ago. It's interesting but it's also a long and lonely road. It doesn't compare with the Million Dollar Highway.

Also, what's in Salina? Why not take US 6 through Price? Just curious. I-70 is spectacular from Salina east but I'm not sure it's worth the detour.
