How long from times square to jfk using a car service?

Hi
i will be in NYC next month and I have always flown in and out of either newark or laguardia. this time I arrive in Laguardia and leave out of JFK, I was just wondering how long it takes on average to get from times square to JFK. I always use a car service and was thinking of a 4 pm pick up time for a flight that leaves on a weekday at 7pm. Will that be enough time or is it too close to rush hour?
Thanks

Rush hour has a huge unpredictable influence. The trip to the airport could take 30 minutes or an hour or even more depending on traffic nightmares. I'd probably leave at 3:30 and be happy to be safe at the airport and waiting at the gate rather than frazzled in traffic and waiting to move.

4:00 p.m. is considered rush hour in the sense that a lot of school buses are dropping children off and if you get caught behind one that is offloading the children usually they have a stop sign and you have to stop. normally it may take 45 minutes but at 4:00 pm i would put the pickup at 3;15

Thanks I will make an earlier pick up to be safe. My wife like to get to the airport extra early any way and my soon likes to explore airports and is ecited to go to JFK
I think because it is named after the president
Thanks

Times Square to JFK is NEVER going to happen in 30 minutes during the day (maybe at 3 am!). (Nor am I sure what school buses have to do with anything - since there won;t be any in either Times Square or JFK.)

What time does your airline want you to check in? Assuming it's 5 pm for a 7 pm flight I would leave Times Square no later than 3:30 pm.

But- you should really ask your car service when they should pick you up for your desired arrival time. They'll know about any special traffic conditions or construction delays etc.

Thanks. I will double check with them when I make the reservations. I am so used to Laguardia and Newark and everyone keeps saying JFK is so much further out

I don't think the trip will ever be less than an hour, and it could be considerably longer. It's taken me more than an hour to get to LaGuardia at that time of day from Midtown on the west side. It can be over 30 minutes just to get across town at that time of day.
