Hotels near The Cloisters?

Parents are going to a wedding @ The Cloisters in 2010. They won't have much time to be tourists so they want to stay near The Cloisters. They want a Marriott brand hotel but when I looked on Marriott web site and the closest two are Teaneck NJ (would imagine one would need a car?) and E. 92nd St (taxi?) Any other suggestions? Thank you.

i am sorry to be the one to tell you there are NO HOTELS in the area at all. It is all residential, apartment buildings and the like. There are a few B&Bs in the area but that's it.

I'd suggest if they want a Marriott, to stay downtown and just take the subway up to 191st St and walk through the park to the Cloisters, which is about a 10 minute lovely walk.

Another option is to take a cab or a car service up from their hotel.

Trust me if you saw the area, you would not want them staying anywhere near the Cloisters.

Just writing to affirm what travelbuff has said. This is not an area with many/any hotels, nor an area where they will likely want to stay.

I find several hotels in the Marriott chain in midtown Manhattan, but none on East 92nd Street.

My choice would be to stay in Manhattan; however, Teanect Marriott at Glenpointe gets high marks at TripAdvisor.

The choices seem to be between taxi or auto rental, bridge toll, and complicated routing; and among the various Marriott brands.

The Marriot on East 92nd is fine and they can take a long leisurely ride to the Cloisters on the M4 bus up Madison Ave for 2.25 each (an $8.00 Metrocard will get them there and back - M4 ends at the Cloisters) or infinitely more expensive taxi rides each way.

Enjoy - and if they stay in the upper East Side, they can visit the Met, the Guggenheim, the Cooper Hewitt, the Jewish Museum etc within walking distance.

They will be dressed for a wedding so a bus may not be the best option.

I would stay at a hotel on the Upper West Side and just take a regular cab.

Many visitors liked "On The Avenue" for example.

If they stay at the Courtyard on East 92nd Street, they might want to have a good meal at the Corner Cafe on the corner of East 92nd Street and 3rd Avenue: http://www.cornercafe-bakery.com

I'd suggest staying on the West Side, it would be easier to get uptown to the Cloisters via the West Side Highway. Also if they want a quick way to get back to the hotel the subway is just a few minutes walk away and a straight shot to downtown on the A or #1 train.

The bus will take almost 2 hours to get up to The Cloisters, not much of a fun ride and not alot to see, other than St. John the Divine at 110th.

The Cloisters are in the m iddle of a sizeable park and there are no hotels nearby - the area is purely residential. I would not stay at the Marriott on E 92 - it is very far east and not convenient for much of nayhting.

If they want to take a cab from there - OK - but not convenient for anything else in the city. They might want to consider the Marrioot Marquis - a straight shot up the west side highway by cab - or on the subway. And much more convenient for anything else they might want to see.
