Hotels

Can anyone recommend a comfortable hotel but not too expensive around about 32nd to 34th streets?

I'll let someone else ask the obvious, since when I point out the question, I seem to be considered rude.

This comes up as New York. Do you care east side or west? What's not too expensive? There are quite a few affordable places in that area, some better than others. Here are a few

The Avalon
The Metro
Murray Hill East Suites (39th)

McLaurie, it may come up as New York, but only after trying to find it on 32 other choices if going through the search function one by one.

I guess people don't realize that all posts come up together and there is no way to bring up what state it refers to unless you try them, one at a time. New York is the 33rd possible choice if trying them in order. That's a lot of work to go through just to find out where someone is talking about.

Meanwhile New York is a state. I wonder if there is a 32nd and 34th Street in Buffalo, or Albany, or anywhere else.

The point is, wouldn't it be nice if people could include a place in their post -- preferably in the title?

In fairness, Patrick, for someone brand new, the labelling of threads is far from intuitive and the sight leads one to believe that by choosing a subcategory, that will sumhow clarify what the thread is about.

This is more a Fodors problem that a poster's problem.

Exactly! Which is why I think it is nice of us to point out to newer posters how it DOES work. Otherwise, how will this problem ever be resolved. Isn't it nice for us to help each other understand how the board does work? I try to do it in a nice way, but I'm sorry that sometimes some people can't stand any criticism at all, even if meant to help out.

Actually, I don't think it's a Fodors problem either. This is what it says when you post a new message:

"Make your message easy to find: Give it a clear, identifying title, and pick the most accurate search topic "

"Hotels" is not a clear, identifying title unless you're asking the broadest of questions. "Need moderate NYC hotel btw 32-34 streets" is.

Having said that, I hope we can help braveheart with his/her query. I don't know the hotels in that particular area of Manhattan.

Of course, no one reads directions, thus the need to the site to be more intuitive.

Now that we've established it's Manhattan - and yes - the post should say much more than "hotels" even if it were only a NYC forum.

What time of year? How many people? What exactly is not too expensive? (Christmas for 3/4 people will be much more than Sept for 2).

Clicking on the name "braveheart" I see the only other post was a question about a limo service from Newark to Manhattan a month ago. Kind of strange to worry about a limo before picking a hotel.

Indeed it is Manhattan.

Price about $200.

I'm coming in early Nov.

Apologies to the frequent users of this forum for the lack of info in my original post...please don't be too harsh on me!!!!!

Braveheart, head a little north to 37th and Lexington and book a room at the Shelburne Murray Hill. Excellent Murray Hill location very close to Grand Central, Empire State Building, and Chrysler Building.
